904 massive leak

This car has some cobbled up transmission lines with compression fittings and rubber hose that goes from the radiator cooler to a trans cooler. Could a blockage cause it to puke out the vent? 904 transmission.
 
Take the rubber hoses( nothing wrong with them between the lines and radiator ) off from the rad.

Have a helper position them ( or get longer ones) unto a bucket. e

Start the engine and look for flow from one of the lines.

Then blow air low pressure ( human lung pressure should be enough) in the other.

The supply when the engine is running has pressure, the return should be open to the trans body ( aka atmosphere)


You did not explain the circumstances under which the puking happens ( immediately on startup, after warm up, after hard driving, after interstate driving, around town driving????)

If it's immediately on startup and you get flow and no restriction in the lines to / from the trans you could hook the to together and start it up. If it still pukes then IMHO it's grisly over full, or some other cause I have never heard of.

If it happens at any other time get a known good trans cooler and put it in place of the stock cooler and test.

You can also test the stock cooler with low pressure air for flow.


Another question....
Is the puked fluid foam or liquid?

If it's foam you might have an air leak in the suction side of the system (low fluid, filter not sealing to the valve body, deep pan without the corresponding extension. Leak somewhere else on the suction side). Foamed up fluid expands a lot
 
Thanks. It starts leaking bad after running for several minutes and in drive. No air in the fluid
 
Unhooked both coolers connected the lines. Still leaks massively

How do you know its coming out of the vent? you can not see it with the trans and torque converter in place.

That leads to seals either TC or trans
 

To be leaking that bad I figured it is coming out the vent or the torque converter is bad or the front seal blew out.

if its not over filled etc then the seals OR even a cracked TC would be where I would be looking.

you could add some floursecent dye to the fluid and then pull the starter and clean really good in and behind the TC.
Put the starter back in and drive it till you know its leaking MAYBE not till its pouring out. pull the starter and with a mirror and blue light see if you can see where its coming from
 
"No it's not this, no it's not that" If you don't know what is IS, then you don't know what it AIN'T. I tell you this. SOMETHING is wrong with it. You said yourself, it's either the converter is cracked, the front seal is bad or blown out OR it's coming out of the vent for SOME undiscovered reason. This is pretty simple. Time to pull it. But, BEFORE I did, I would make DANG SURE it's not the dipstick tube seal leaking, OR fluid being pushed up and out of the dipstick. Both of those woes can be tricky to see where the leak is coming from, so I would be 100% SURE. Shooting down every single idea given when you don't know what it IS might be a recipe for disaster. Might wanna rethink that one.

sounds like it's getting hot and then leaking. i'd check that it's not pushing out the dipstick tube, seal or out of the front of the pan.

i'd make double whammy damn sure that it was filled properly before going any deeper. fluid gets hot and expands. you gots too much and it gots to go somewheres.
