Hello all, I am retro-fitting front discs into my 64 Dart GT conv., I picked up a whole disc k-member with everything, but I don't know what it is from. I want to order the suspension rebuild kit from Just Suspension, my question is, can I just order the kit for any year disc A-body, or do I need to give a specific year for my discs? If so, is the year stamped on anything? Just Suspension did not know the answer, any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Tom

You'll need to order the appropriate upper ball joint for your combo. If you are running the 73-up big bolt pattern brakes, they have their own ball joint. The KH small bolt disks use the same upper as 10" drums I believe. The 9" drums use different upper and lower ball joints and you don't want these.

Interesting, I got the 10's and want/need front disks but I am in deep on my front rims/tires so I need to retain the 5X4 pattern. KH made the SBP disk so I just need the rotors, calipers and adapters and hoses? Are the KH disks 1 or 2 piece? Thanks

Another way to identify the year is if the motormount is a flat pad (72 and older) or a cradle and thrubolt (73 and up).

tbr3, can you post a picture of what you have? I did a complete swap on my wifes 66 and I could tell with a picture what you have. The guys are right, the upper ball joint is the same as a 10" drum, but the lower is unique. Also, for my swap, I replaced the steel lines with a new set for a 67 A body with discs. The reason for that change is that the steel lines are different from drum to disc, including the front to rear line to the distribution block, and there was also a second block further back that the rear line went into and just came back out. Not to mention the additional lines from the new master cylinder. The disc's themselves are 2 piece, and you can get the disc itself but not the hub, so save your hub if it's a KH set-up. My swap was for manual disc so I just ordered the manual disc master cyl. that is applicable to a 69 dart and it bolted right in. I hope you grabbed all of the distribution blocks from the donor car, it makes bolting everything up a lot easier. Good luck finding rebuilt calipers if it's a KH set-up, they are harder to find than a pot of gold. There was a fellow at the Nats this year with a small swap space and he had tons of brake stuff, and man he knew EVERYTHING about mopar brakes. He was quoting part numbers right off his head, and he had all kinds of obsolete stuff ready and willing to sell. He had hand assembled kits for every car you could throw at him, and was very knowledgeable and friendly. I got his flyer around here somewhere but he is off the grid, no email or computer at all, just a phone number. If I can find it I'll post it for everyone. Anybody else talk to him? He was quite a card. Good luck with your swap and if you would like a few pictures of my swap, PM me and I'll shot you a couple. Geof

I think I ran into that guy as well at the nats, he had a 1 ton van chock full of brake parts and kits. Nice dude, good prices. I grabbed a flyer from him - Craig Studnick - Mobile parts 516-485-1935.

Yep, thats him. He had some early A-body brake stuff like a 1 piece rotor for the KH set-up, and the A-body 8 3/4 drums, but even he didn't have the calipers and advised me to grab them when you see them. He had everything else chocked in that van, though. I liked his pricing method, add all the stuff up that you were buying, pick a couple Mopar related numbers close to the price of your stuff, and let you pick one of the numbers and pay that amount. What fun!!!! I would buy any brake related parts from him and be assured you were getting the best price and the correct items. Thanks 66dartgt, I think I lost my flyer or it got "cleaned up". Geof

Thanks for all the info. I've attached photos.

Yep those are BBP discs. It uses a single piston floating caliper where the KHs were 4-piston, fixed caliper units.

I may need an education here. I thought that in 67, the A-body got a wider front end to accomodate the big block which meant that later model k-frames would not fit early model bodies. Control arms and spindles interchange, however.
