You may be thinking you want to use an electric fuel pump and LA accessory drive and that’s fine.
But do yourself a favor and add the mechanical pump eccentric to the Magnum cam snout anyway.

I’m on my third electric pump in five years.
I had a Carter rotary for about a month when going up a pretty good hill the other day, the engine started sputtering until I backed off the throttle some.

Got home and hooked up my gauge to find 1.5 pounds at the carb.
I’m kicking myself for not adding the mechanical pump provision when I built this motor.

thoughts on hughes cam snout adapter dongle thingy for the short nose cam to run the eccentric? i'm interested in what you have to say about the engineering behind it.

It’s a kit you can buy to add the eccentric and special cup washer to the Mag cam.

And then there are cars like our 04 Escape with a MAY 03 build date. Been together 22 years with almost 200K with the same electric pump. You can't get that in the aftermarket.

Rusty they ain't all that good. I've had to replace a few '21 F150 pumps already at work with as low as 55k miles but I agree on using a mechanical pump whenever possible

From everything I’ve read and heard, a quality in-tank pump is much more reliable than any in-line pump. I’m planning on running a tanks inc tank with an in-tank Walbro pump. I will add an access door in the trunk as well just in case.

The adapter from Hughes....

They seem to use a weird custom Woodruff key. I thought that there must be a simpler way to do this thing because it is EASY TO LOSE THAT KEY.

I prefer a mechanical pump for everything carbureted. They are reliable and even when they aren't, they can be swapped faster than any in tank pump.

You're definitely onto something @TrailBeast .

I Magnum swapped my Barracuda and found out in short time that I couldn't make the electric pump quiet enough for my autistic grandson to ride in the back seat.

I also had a Carter electric pump go out, then I bought a Holly 1791 off a FABO member. It worked great for a couple of years until I added the Hughes cam extension and went back to a mechanical pump.

Like you said, best do it while you're swpping in the engine!!!

NAPA sells FACET pumps
That’s good to know. Like everything else NAPA sells, it will cost more to buy it from them. Case N point, I went into the Napa we have an account with for some NGK plugs, 11.99 each, while I’m in there and the counter kid is looking in the back for them, I look them up on O’Reillys, 7.99 each. I say I’ll pass on them, and get whatever was in my hand. I walk out, call up the O’Reillys, order the plugs and have them delivered to the shop. The NAPA tax is excessive, Ron Capps is cool, but Napa Sucks…

Don’t really know about the engineering as I have only read that some have had trouble with it from an engineering point of view.
Nothing I couldn’t solve I’m sure.

The best people-friendly electric pump I ever used was a Walbro solenoid bellows style unit, quiet & pumped fuel like a beast, it was used & purty old & the bellow sprung a leak at Keystone Raceway. I still made the 1hr.45min. drive Home. The Holley Red pump, in combo w/the shitty brass barbed 5/16" hose adapters, couldn't keep up w/the 383 & nitrous. I lost ~350rpm off the top end right away, w/o the giggle gas, that sucked...
I still have that Walbro apart in a box somewhere, should see if I can find new bellows & seals for it.

The state of "quality" for automotive parts ought to be a CRIME. NHTSA and DOD should ramp up efforts. When you get critical failures in brake, steering and headlights that is a LIFE OR DEATH safety issue. Fuel pumps are nearly as bad, as they could potentially leave someone trapped in a lane of a multi lane busy freeway.

No that's not why. You thought there must be a cheaper way because you're a cheapskate.

Your comments toward me have pissed me off but I’ve let them slide.
No more.
For years in construction , I made things fit and work. Wood and other materials had to be cut to fit. Tasks had to be done and sometimes, a specialty tool had to be made to do it. I did that. When a tool didn’t exist, I made one.
With cars, I look at a situation and think of how I can do it using what I have on hand. That isn’t being cheap, it is being smart.
If you don’t have the creativity or ability to made tools or modify parts, maybe buying things is your only option.
I’ve made brackets here when I have found a sway bar that I liked. Why? Because I enjoy the challenge. Sure, any idiot could order a complete kit that bolts in.

That's true. Any fool can write a check. If I could do that, I'd have a shiny red 75K plus Charger in my stable, too.

I didn't write checks for the work on the car. I've done just about everything on the car besides machine work and front end alignment. I've since started doing my own alignments so you can cross that off the list. I've had some help and some good advice so I can't take all the credit. It is far from perfect but I know how most of it works because I didn't just buy everything.
Calling a guy a cheapskate because he chooses to build or modify what he has on hand rather than to order it and wait three days is short sighted and stupid. Sometimes what you want is simply not made for retail sale.
Case in point....
When I did the 5 speed conversion in 2021, the clutch pedal sat up higher than the brake pedal and I didn't like it. I decided to correct that. I wanted to cut and weld the linkage pieces to raise the brake pedal.

My idea would have worked but my idea was to cut, extend and weld. This would have been non adjustable.
A FABO/FBBO member helped me out with this....

His idea was better than mine because it allowed room to adjust to get the pedal right where I wanted it .

Nobody makes this and had it in a catalog to buy.

I know you didn't. My point was, that out of ALL the people on here, you would accuse ME of being a check writer. I constantly say on here what a totally shitty fabricator I am. I can make some rudimentary things, but that's my limit. Beyond that, I have to rebuild and refurbish used parts. If I could afford any check writing at all, Vixen would have been in paint and body now for a long time. My project Cheap & Nasty was even built with original USED cleaned up crankshaft bearings and a USED and cleaned up oil pump. That sound like a check writer to you? Social Security is our only income. Truth be told, I'm the one who should be taking up stamp collecting or tiddly winks, but somehow, I end up making it work and I can guarantee you it's not with the checkbook.
