WOW!! That thing is noisy !? Pilot bearing less than 500 miles, throwout bearing less than a thousand and both well inspected. New bilet steel 440 source flywheel. Act 6 puck drag clutch.
It sounds like 500 cats running there nails on a chalkboard!?
Works fine .

No,not really. A six puck street clutch. Why? Street clutch would be quiet. Has it been noisy from the get go? Any fully engaged clutch would be quiet. Does it make this noise all the time? When slipping it? Getting worse? Need to describe things better. Dont drive it til its fixed. Unless you got lots of $$$.

Yeah that's one crazy looking desk no doubt. It was just finished installed last night and I barely had time to take it for a small test drive. it was clearly when I was engaging the clutch. it's making a noise as if it was a throwout bearing. I'm going to try another test drive today as it really does sound as if six pieces of ceramic material is caught between to steal sandwiches.

This stinks to hear but I'd take it back apart. Check to make sure the buttons are still in the disk, flywheel bolts aren't hitting anything, stuff like that. I've seen it happen, not on mopars as I don't have much experience with them but on Audis when I was into them. I've seen the friction material just fall off even the springs in the disk come out.

I sure appreciate your words of concern. I took it for another test drive today and it seems as the noise was going away quite quick. I think it was just needing a little little break in time for the surfaces to mate properly.
I believe I got what I asked for when I wanted a drag race only clutch. I just wasn't prepared for the first little bit of noise it made. I'll call act clutches tomorrow and make sure if this is a normal sound, but again it works great - bit like a light switch :burnout:

Uhh,race disc would have no springs. Solid hub instead. You probably have a marcel there too. Both of these features are for smoother,more agreeable manners. Without these the disc is lighter and stronger and is easier on the syncros,shifts better. But it becomes much more grabby. Looses its manners,gets rude! LOL.

^^^ yes I talk to the technicians at ACT before I bought it making sure I could get it on the trailer without launching it over the trailer and onto the durango!? They said they were making them out of slightly different materials and I'd be ok. (They said nothing about a loud break in noise!!) All the one's I see in ad's have six evenly spaced pucks, not three high and three low? It's an odd looking critter. I wonder if the four bigger springs are part of a newer version? As opposed to six smaller ones. We like rude (cars) in the jpar camp!!

The Source flywheel probably has a Ra value that's not optimum for the puck material. You could probably find out what should be there, and what the flywheel should have... But driving it might just fix it too.

I called ACT today and they were talking about a stock flywheel if none was recommended or provided by ACT, (they do not produce a small block Mopar flywheel) but you know me I had to question why would you want a race clutch with a stock flywheel!?? I thought at least a compromise of sorts to get the 440 source billet steel instead of a zoom $80 made in Thailand oem style flywheel? There aultimate suggestion was the latter of your suggestions just to drive it a little more and let it break in a bit more. I kind of made the question also to them - how do you put hundreds of breaking miles in on a race only clutch? Some 3rd gear starts and lots of cool down time in between? Well I don't know about all that...
