Hello all,
I Recently bought a RediRad for my stock AM radio. I currently have two 8 ohm 6x9 speakers wired in parallel underneath the rear package tray. Wired like this when I bought the car. The PO spliced in speaker wire to the stock radio + & - terminals deleting the dash speaker and running the wire to the trunk. My question is concerning the total ohm load on the stock AM radio. From what I have read the radio should have no more than 8 ohm load...correct? As of right now I've got a 4 ohm total load on my radio which would eventually cause it to heat up and fail. I found two 4 ohm 6x9 speakers I had on a previous vehicle. If I wire these speakers in series I'll get 8 ohms total load...correct? I really want to keep the stock radio in the car, but do not want to overload it. I'm new to this, sorry for the ignorance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Actually. these types of radios are pretty tolerant of speaker impedance

Where did you get that the factory is 8 ohm? Not saying it is or is not, I simply don't know offhand.

Two 4's in series would indeed give you 8. Be sure to check polarity, so the cones move the same. You can Google that.

That might be a bit much. I'd either go two 4's or two 8's

Uh, plug some car speakers into and turn it up... Does this need a thread?

Not sure with what your doing with the two, but the best money I spent for my 68 RR was taking out the 6x9 that was shoved in the dash and replacing it with the correct 8ohm speaker from turnswitch.com . The radio sound so much better and clear...

Thanks for the suggestion. I had some nice modern 4 ohm 6x9's laying around and wanted to use them. Going to wire them in series and see how that sounds. Still got the original 8 ohm speaker in the dash...i may just hook that back up if im not happy with the sound.
