I WISH I could by an 11 second Duster for $7500.

I think I paid 7500.00 or 8000.00 for my black duster in 2008 or 2009. Edelbrock headed 360 that ran low 11’s with a 3500.00 Cope racing 727 in it. And he threw in a couple extra 360 blocks and sold me an extra set of new coated 1 7/8 headmen headers for 200.00. Delay box and everything.

Having cash & being in the right place at the right time helps.

I never sat in the car for three years. I bought it and left my son race it. When I wrecked my Daytona in September 2010 I told him he could finish the year but he had to have his car finished for the 2011 race season. And we did. Back in 1976 I was still street and strip racing my 1972 duster. 3 miles from me a 1969 drag only dart came up for sale for 1600.00. Dana rearend, spool axles, 14-32 slicks, set up for big block. I grabbed it the next day with a 28 day loan. 2800.00 for the 1972 duster (340 four speed) but it was a street car when I bought it.

Boy I wish I had some of my Mopar's back.

I looked at that car in an ad, a couple years ago. I didn't want to pay for paint to return it to the Hamburger livery.

Pictures of these car (and prices) give my a woody. I suppose you could call me an autosexual.

You now you are dedicated, when you are willing to go to any means to be able to race. Including a Olds Cutlass as a toe vehicle!

Neighbor had a cutlass like that, convertible drag car in the 90's. 455? Ran 10's and pulled the wheels off the ground.

My neighbor custom built my towing hitch for it. Lots of guys towed with cars back then but there weren’t many hitches available for them. My Dad towed a 20 foot travel trailer from Pa to California 57 years ago with a Cadillac. In 1971 he bought a new Chrysler New Yorker with a 440 in it. Man it towed nice. I bought a 1976 Chrysler Cordoba from him with a 400 lean burn to replace my cutlass but quickly sold it. I wasn’t ready for the fine Corinthian velvet yet in my life.

Not me. "All" I had was a 70 Challenger R/T 383 4 spd 3.91 Sure Grip, 69 Dart GTS 340 4 spd (already gutted for racing, I had a 440 six pack 727 'glass hood in it), and 72 Demon 340 727 3.23 Sure Grip. I also had a 70 Challenger R/T Hemi car, no motor or trans, the rear was gone, it had an open 8 3/4 when I got it. At the time, it had little value as it sat. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

And speaking of cars that have gone up in value, I had a chance to buy SS&DI's Project Six Pack. I was a friend of the owner. (Recently passed, RIP, Ted.) He decided not to sell it. I would've had a hard time coming up with the $4500(!) (late 70's). He did good when he did sell it. I was glad.
