Wanted to replace the stock snorkel air cleaner with an Edelbrock Pro-Flow triangle for a while.

Had hoses running from the valve cover breather to the air cleaner, then air cleaner NOX valve to the carb, so I put a one-way PCV between the breather straight into the carb.

Also following some suggestions, I plugged off the manifold preheat hole which connected by stovepipe to the snorkel.

Anyone see any problems with this setup? Thanks.

Hum, IF I see this right, the valve cover breather, the big one that has a hose going to the air cleaner base is now plumbed directly into the carb. Is this right?

Then I think that a mistake. Just point the outlet up and leave it be. Pointed down may spill droplets of oil. If anything, run a hose from it to the bottom of the air cleaner base. Most kits come with an adaptive fitting.

A picture would help here.

the hose from breather cap to air cleaner is just part of EPA regulations and not really needed.

Yes you're right here is one pic.

So it hosed from the valve cover to a breather to the air cleaner, then NOX on the cleaner to the carb.

Now I routed it from breather to a PCV and into the carb.

I got the direction from suggestions like this, and others saying a breather should be sufficient to handle the air cleaner function of catching oil before it gets to the carb:

PCV Location: The location of the PCV Valve is almost always around the top of the engine valve cover. It will consist of the PCV valve and pipe leading from the top of the engine valve cover to the intake manifold. The system relies on the intake manifold's air pressure being less than crankcase air pressure. The lower pressure of the intake manifold pulls air from the breather through the valve, and into the intake manifold.

Yep, That big hosed breather on the side I would ethier vent open or route to under the air cleaner.

Thanks, do you know if I should do anything special with the carb nipple that used to be fed by the NOX valve, cap it or something?

And also the manifold preheat hole, wanted to verify with anyone here if plugging that is a good idea or not, some guys on other boards said that's ok.

You should be able to cap anything on the carb not used without ill effect.

:read2:View attachment 36339/ Any fresh ideas here? I want to build or buy a NASCAR-type air cleaner that will get some cowl air from the firewall plugs. I have some good ideas, but, fear I might have tunnel vision. Keep 'er safe...........rick
