fabbing up brake 3/16 hard lines. someone had adviced to use em on either side of the double female connectors & to anneal them to soften em for a better fit. and how do I anneal them? is this critical? thank you for your time. RR

Around 700 degrees, not quite glowing red. Quence in water or air cooled doesnt matter much with brass. If this was steel, etc.., it would matter more.

The conical washers shouldn't need to be annealed, I've never needed to. They've always been soft enough. That's usually reserved for the flat washers on banjo fittings.

Some of you guys think way to much in the way of repair, maintenance, on an automobile.
Come on, putting copper washers to the torch?
Hey, I'm just telling them how.. LOL. The only time you should need to do this is if they have been hardened, like old aircraft plug washers. The cheap AME / AP's heat the used ones up and put them back. I spend the buck each and put new ones in right out of the box.

Copper work hardens. After a compression cycle or two, it won't upset and seal the same as it would when fully annealed. May or may not make a difference every time. If I don't have new ones on hand, I will always anneal copper or brass sealing washers before reuse so I am less likely to have to go back in. Takes a minute and gives me peace of mind. I consider it similar to a lot of the small details that go into building a good motor. Will the motor run if you throw plasti-gage at the used bearings and hone the bores with a three pad hone on a drill? Probably. But the result won't be as good as if you use good shop practices.

Are you guys using these in addition to a double flare? Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had issues getting a proper double flare to seal.

just use the washers as is, if you have to take the fitting apart in the future, use a new washer.

I tried annealing em & just made a mess so I have another set of 10 & I will put em in as is carefully. thanks guys! RR
