Hi again all. If you read my last tread you know that last weekend my son and I have been looking for a parts car. Here is another one we found.

I have been talking to some people and I heard of where there may be a late 60's Dart of some sort. The guy told me close to how to get to the house but it would be up to me to find it. Well, with my son driving so I can look we were going down the road and then my son had to take a leak himself and pulled of onto a gravle road. As he drove to get out of site fron the main road we came to a house. so as we drove by I seen a Dart in the back yard. I told my son good job at finding it.
Well, here is where the story gets good. I go to the house to talk to the owner and ask if it were for sale. She said she could not get rid of it, it had belonged to her late husband. It is a 69 GTS, and from what I could see of the front and pass side there is NO rust at all. She did not want me to look at it due to the LARGE DOGS in the yard. But I have heard since it has a 4-speed. It is Gold or tan, could not tell with the shade tree over it.
So in talking to my wife (great girl) she ask if I left my number in case she were to sell it later. Well I tucked my head and said no. I think I will wait till the summer and go by there again and leave my number and just to talk to the owner and tell her my plans for the father/ son project. I just wish I could have got a better look at it. Whats ya'll take on it? I don't know lots about the GTS so not sure what to look for. What is fair price to pay?
Well I hope I can add to this story later in the summer. Have a great day.
Jeff

The worth of a well restored 69 GTS with a 340 4spd is about $25K. I paid $3700 for a 68 Dart GT with no rust (but needed a restoration). It originally had a /6, but now has a 73 318 & K-frame & brakes. It also has an 8 3/4 rear and almost all the parts were there. The value of that car depends. If it had no rust (other than surface) I would pay about $4-7K for it. Remember, some parts are VERY expensive. Rear tail panels run about $500, Bumpers about $200-400, Grilles about $300, Hoods about $450, wheel well trim about $400. It these hard to find parts that can make it expensive to restore. SOme parts are just plain cheap. You can put a whole new interior in it for about $1500. If I were you, get a better look at it, take some pictures, and try to figure out if there are any missing pieces before you settle on that one. Unless you can get it real cheap.

Yep I would keep an eye on it,A GTS would be great

Rule number one when you find a "backyard car". Leave your number. Here's what you do.
go back with your son and first give the lady your phone number(s).
explain that you're looking for a father and son project to work on TOGETHER.
explain that you're going to bring it back to original and won't alter it.
promise to bring it by and allow her to have a ride in it again.
Be sincere about wanting to take away her "memories".
Ask her if she thought that her husband would want to see the car on the road again before it rots away to nothing.
Offer your son's services around her house or yard. Let her get to know him.
Try not to sound like someone who just wants to make a buck by flipping the car.

Good Luck.

Don't wait for summer. Go back and see her now. Let her know how sincerely you want the car.
