Any seen an AFB with an AVS top???

This obviously doesn't look right and not entirely sure that it's a problem but I bought a 1967 Commando code 4305s that is a California carburetor. My question is what makes it a California carb and would the emissions have something to do with it being this way? It's in excellent condition and was a good deal just figured poke some more brains about it.

That's just an early style AFB carb and not a mismatch of parts. It may even have the smaller neck size. Not the normally size were used to having. Mr. Gasket makes annadapter for it to use with normal air cleaners.

An old friend of mine had a '67 Chrysler Imperial, 440 cid engine with that very carb on top.

Most people do not beileve that a 440 came with the smaller 625 AFB back in the day. They always say no way, 440's only came with a 750.
NOT TRUE!

And yes I do realize that the carb has the 3 step AVS covers.
 
You are aware that the choke thermostat is missing ? check the throttle bore diameter to see if has been altered

Yup...the "lo-po" 440's (Chryslers, Imperials)came with the smaller AFB....the "Hi-PO" 440's (Charger, Coronet RT, GTX) came with the 750 AFB.

Is it an actual 4305 base?. If it is, then someone has drilled the extra mounting holes to use it on a newer manifold (wider "Holley" pattern).

Yeah, it's the 4305 base. I didn't notice those holes either. Thanks!
 
And the early AFB carbs had no weighted secondary door.
Actually the 273 HiPo AFB and the Max Wedge 3447S AFBs do have the weighted secondary doors or velocity valves as they were called. Also the '67 HiPo 440 used a AFB not a AVS. I believe Chrysler began using AVS carbs in '68.

Thanks, it was my understanding that they starred in 68 as well. But just trying to make sense of this odd carb. Anyone have a 67 commando carb to compare? I've scoured the internet and can't find any pics.

I know, thanks, this is what I was getting at without specifically pegging the year, make, models or carb numbers.

I just remember my old buddy Bob G's '67 that had that carb. An AFB without a weighted secondary air door.
 
Hey Jake are you able to post side pics of linkage and springs. I got mine messed up and yours looks like a nice complete carb.
