Im about ready to rebuild my 904 out of my 71 scamp and just curious as to what special tools will be needed to so do?

There's been lots posted on here previously. You need to get two books, at least, and / or a factory shop manual

You can download some shop manuals for free from

http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=132309&highlight=manual,+download

and a few more from "MyMopar:"

came from here:

You want this book

http://www.amazon.com/Torqueflite-727-Transmission-Handbook-HP1399/sim/1557883998/2

and an ATSG book. After you find the proper one from their website, you might be able to find one cheaper at Amazon or Ebay:

And, go to Youtube and download these videos: (about 20 in all, excellent) I believe these also do a good job of detailing what you need for tools. Not that much, really.

(There are several ways to save Youtube videos. The way I do it is, I use Firefox browser, and installed the plugin called "DownloadHelper" which can save streaming video from many sites)

Do you need a clutch press to get a big *** circlip out of one of the shells, or is that a ford thing?

you can get the front pump out by taking all the bolts out... now install some that are a little longer that stock... want good thread engament... now stand the trans up on its bell... pick it up and drop it SQUARE to the flange... just a couple of inches usually does it...

It has about a 4 inch round outer style snap ring type clip that holds the springplate in.
Shops use a compressor like this.

I like putting a big screwdriver between the pump and the forward drum.
Pops ONLY the pump right out.:D
Not prying on the thrust washer, just between the drum and pump.

Nothing needed to get the pump out but gravity and a tap of the tailshaft!

Haven't used a slidehammer, EVER! :D

The only tool I can think of that might help is a lip seal tool.
Bushing replacement requires special drivers if neccesary.

Big C clamps come in handy.

Good call on the lipseal tool.
I didn't even think about that.
