I have 7 that are 10 inch on the 7 1/4 and only 1 that is 9 inch. The rearend was changed on it because the fronts are 10 inch drum on that car too.

The only 7&1/4 rear I've even seen that didn't have 10 inch drums was under a 67 slant 6 car small bolt pattern of course. All V8 builds and all large bolt pattern rears had 10 inch drums.

the original 7.25" (piece of ****) diff in my '72 Swinger had those oddball 10x1.75" flared "Bell" drums .

those bastards would have cost $75.00 a piece to replace , back in the mid-90's , AND there was a $25.00 core charge on them each (!!).
Why a core ? They can be relined .
So instead of paying a King's ransom for the stupid things , I just went to the local pick-a-part and grabbed an 8.25" diff (with 3.21 Sure Grip AND the all-important big bolt circle wheel pattern) and said 'good riddance' to that spindly , too-weak-even-for-a-170-Slant-Six-with-an-automatic 7.25" pile :mumum: .

Yep, my 318/904A Barracuda originally had the 7 1/4 with those bell 10" brakes. Trashed the rear (early '90s) when I converted to LBP 10" discs up front and 8 3/4 rear with cut down van axles and 11" brakes.

10" drums were an option on Australian built Valiants.....very rare too......it's the one with the ribs on the drum.

Either they were '65 and older V8 vehicles or they didn't have the original rear ends in them because all the '66 and newer V8 cars came stock with 10" brakes.

my 66 V8 barracuda has 10" drums
my brothers 67 /6 dart GT had 9" drums
as did both of my friends 1970 /6 darts 9"
