Hey Guys,

There is a non-Mopar vehicle I'm interested in purchasing in Murphy, NC and I was hoping I could find someone who is close that could be my eyes. Of course I'd pay for your time.

Please PM me.

Thanks,
Mike

Wish I was nearer.... it is a long way from Murphy to anywhere.

Thank you, I’ve since come to realize it is quite remote. I did find out I can fly to Chattanooga very cheaply, but I’m not sure I want to do a fly and drive when the trip home is 11 hours.

Not to Hijack your thread but wife and I are looking for places to retire. On paper Murphy looks good. Housing reasonable. Climate, and scenic, near lakes, but we haven't traveled there yet. Possibly this spring. Met someone locally a while back who was with the police in Murphy. Said it was a nice place but not getting that from comments here. Would appreciate any input.

You might be in luck,I have 1 acre lot in Natahala Acres in Topton NC. which is close by. I've owned it for 40 years. Never did anything with it. PM me so we don't clog up this thread.

If you like things isolated, then Murphy is good. For big shopping, you are going to have to travel 1.5 miles west through the gorge to Chattanooga, or 1.5 hours east to Asheville, or 2+ hours south to Atlanta. (But you don't want to deal with Atlanta traffic IMHO...) It does have a Walmart and couple of grocery stores, auto parts, hardware. It has cell service.

Murphy is in a big valley with mixed pasture and wooded hill areas; more the latter. 6000' mtns to the NW, and you travel over mountains and through deep valleys or the gorge to the west to go anywhere else. So the overall terrain is rather rugged. Somewhat like northern VT or NH with more oak/deciduous trees. Here is a listing for an unusually large house (for that area) with a good pix of the terrain:

It is gonna be another planet compared the Hyde Park.... Very rural culture and a very southern Appalachian culture. It will have a decent car culture; older cars are well appreciated in this region. More of a place to go with the local flow rather than bringing in an outside attitude. Great if you are a hunter or fisherman.

Mixed neighborhoods (high and low income housing) is more common in this section of the country. Less in the way of zoning laws, and more of an 'undeveloped' view on land use.

Thanks for the info Mark. Sounds like you know Murphy well. Actually it isn't all that different from Hyde Park. We are just outside of the Catskill Mountains and we have quite a few pockets of mobile homes and DIY zoning. I don't mind isolation and being rural as long as there are necessities close by like doctors, hospitals and food. I actually prefer it and southern folks have always been very nice whenever I get down there. Living there may be another story but we have no attitudes. I also hunt and fish so it's got that covered as well.
That is some house!!! 4600 square feet. WOW. That would go for about $700k by me and taxes would be $12k per year. I have been checking homes on Zillow down there and they are turning over in weeks. Sometimes days. I'm going to put Murphy on the list of places to check out. Thanks again.

Hunting and fishing seems to be a great bond all over, wherever you go or are from. As long as you and the wife/family are OK with the distances, then it can be a nice type of area. Probably below average for wealth, but not impoverished. I have no idea on clinics/doctors, and I suspect the hospitals are the same distance away as major shopping. Cherokee NC might have something more in that line, and Waynesville might have more doctors.

Been there a few times: Raced in the area (rallies in the NF west of there), used to go there as part of my work from time to time, and hail from about 3 hours NE of there.

'DIY zoning'... I'll try to remember that term LOL
