Ok I had a talk with a guy here who builds race engines as for my tick he says comp lifters are crap and that is my problim.Off shore made is the problim there crap he said over and over.he said all i put in is Iskeys not sure if it is spelled right tho.Anyone else had problims with comp cams and lifters? This winter we are going to rebuild our 360 as planed just thought the 318 would get us by this summer.:angry7:

Whats the history on the engine? Did you install the cam and lifters? Have you checked to see if the lifters and cam are OK? I had a lifter tick and the #1 intake lifter and lobe was wiped out.

A while back Comp had a problem with lifters going bad, but that was due to a strike. I have been installing Comp cams/lifters for quite a few years now and have ZERO problems. Are you sure it's not an exhaust leak? Racers will have opinions all over the board. One bad experience can turn someone.

I had MP lifters in and had a tick from the valve, so replaced them with Comp and has the same tick. Some cams are noisy. One person has the same cam I do (Comp XE268H ) and he commented to me one time that he is often asked if it's a solid cam because of the noise.

Dano, I put the new cam and lifters in myself the cam and lifters have about 2 hours run time on it, the last owner said the motor was rebuilt but not sure how many miles was on it.When I pulled the old cam the bearrings look new and the cylinders still had a cross hatch from honeing. How do I check to see if the cam and lifters are good. Thanks for the help.

I`ve had a bad lifter right out of the package with MP parts so I replaced the one lifter immediately and all was fine. From what I`ve read there are only a few companies making lifters so a fault in manufacturing can span many brands. I now have a Comp Cams set-up and although it is solid, it is just plain noisy. I talked to Comp about it and they said it was because of the cam ramp configuration. Evidently some designs are much louder than others.

No issues with Comp Cams lifters... There are precious few manufacturers of lifters. Like one or two left IIRC. There were 4-5 years ago and the issue was one batch that Comp had that were softer and not crowned properly IIRC. I'm not sure what your initial complaint was... noise?

sorry, mopar she is noisey nothing like, lets say it was down on a quart or so of oil just not used to this sound.its been years since I installed a cam.The last one was a Crane fireball in a 360 I had and I bought my lifters from Canadian tire no ticks that motor even had over 100 thou miles on it.So its a noise complante.

I pulled my valve cover on the side that made noise and looked over my rockers. Mine are adjustable, so I was adjusting them again in case I had a loose setting. When looking at the other adjusters, the bad lifter required far more adjustment, so off went the intake and I could see the lifter sitting lower that n the others, one removed, it was apparent. The lifter never spun in the bore. You might check for excessive slop in your rockers/pushrods if your nonadjustable. Also, the guilds in my heads were too long for the lift in my cam, bending push rods. might make sure everything clears.

Three questions.. Can you measure the ID of the lifter bores accurately? And... Do you know the preload on the lifters? Which lifters (part number)?

Just had to repl 2 comp lifters that were 4 years in the engine but less than 2000 miles on them. adjustable rockers & comp xe268 cam.

All I know they were comp lifters the ones they said to use with there cam.The cam is the 280h-10 part number 20-232-4 springs are 901-16 also used there retainers,.

Funny, I just replaced a brand new set of Comp lifters that ticked loudly. with a set of Crane's today.

is the tick gone

Haven't started it yet to know. The Comp's had 6 miles on them in a brand new motor when one started to tick very loudly. I didn't want my cam to get damaged, so I put new ones in.

You know, I will never go hydraulic again, and have no clue why any car enthusiast would. Whats a valve adjustment? Another hour on the oil change?

Is it a 360? if so make sure you have 360 pushrods,318 and 360 have diffrent length's.....if not the problem check the preload on them, should be at least .030 preload or they will tick like a dawg with a bunch of tick's

Well me did not know there is a difference in the push rods waggin thing is i grab 16 rods from my 318 and 16 from my 360 and pick 16 that rolled the true and put them in my 318.So are 360 push rods longer that 318 or are 318 longer than the 360.

I have Comp solid rollers in my car and I haven't had any problems. When you're not used to solids like I wasn't it took a little getting used to.

A little over 2 yrs. ago I had 3 comp cams sets that had lifter problems. 2 in my 360 and one in a buddies 454 I rebuilt for him. Mine worked ok at first then about 150 miles into it they started loosing their prime. At first they pumped up then after about 250 miles they no longer pumped up and ticked all the time. I took it apart. No flat lobes and the bores were within spec. They were spinning ok. Just junk lifters that wouldn't hold pressure. So I called comp and they sent me out a replacement set and I put them in on the same cam (they wouldn't send a cam too) and they lasted about 500 miles before they started ticking all the time. Pulled it out (both cam and lifters this time) and installed a Lunati c/L set and haven't had any trouble in 4000 miles and it runs a little stronger. My buddies 454 ticked from day one. Comp argued it was supposed to do that. Yeah right. It sounded like a solid with .040 lash. Finally after about 1000 miles they would no longer pump up at all. He installed a Racer Brown cam and hasn't had any problems since.

I did hear it was due to the strike mentioned earlier because they bought Chinese lifters but they got it fixed when the mfg. in the US got running again. But after the experiences we had I don't plan on using them again. Just sour grapes. I wonder if your set was setting around a long time and is one of those sets??

I heard about those comp cams lifters...
An when i put a set in mine it was around then,me an my mech
always argue about why my 318 isnt revving up as hard as it should.
Or as it used to.
