7-year-old junior dragster dies after track incident at Orlando Speed World Dragway
She was making her first runs in a junior dragster during the track’s test and tune event.
We had a junior miss the cutout turn here in Texas a few months ago. It rolled and the cage caved in and pinned her in the car. It took quite a while to get her out.Very sad, there was another in Australia a few years ago. In that one, the driver didn’t slow down enough and either still tried to make the cutout turn or was directed by course worker to still turn off at the cutoff. Hit the end of the cutout wall. They do such a detailed instruction session for new drivers. When it doubt, let them roll on by. Also don’t stand in the lane. For most drivers that will force them into trying to turn even if they don’t think they should try. Leave them the option.
A seven year old driving a car at 80 mph? In my opinion that's crazy. A that age most do not have sufficient hand/eye coordination. Maybe at 10 years old.80 mph is the limit. IIRC. I would be very unhappy if a cage collapsed. The chassis should be a controlled item. A spec item, from 1-2 manufacturers.
I'm not sure but I thought the entry level Jr Dragsters ran like 40 mph.
It depends allot on the clutch tuning, 40 sounds about right.Roughly what speed is 13.90 in the 1/8th ?
At the very least this shouldn't be the child's 1st experience driving a powered vehicle.A seven year old driving a car at 80 mph? In my opinion that's crazy. A that age most do not have sufficient hand/eye coordination. Maybe at 10 years old.
over 80 mph.Roughly what speed is 13.90 in the 1/8th ?
Was thinking about how I was a much better ball player at 10 from 8, 12 from 10, 14 from 12.A seven year old driving a car at 80 mph? In my opinion that's crazy. A that age most do not have sufficient hand/eye coordination. Maybe at 10 years old.
80 is in the 7.90 area.over 80 mph.
Problem I see is learning speed in a straight line and no experience with how vehicles react to change in direction etc.80 is in the 7.90 area.
There are E bikes running the streets faster than the girl was running.
It's sad for sure, but kids got to start somewhere, me it was fast dirt bikes at 9 years old.
I was legally driving full size Mopars on the street at 14 years old during daylight hours in Idaho, no seatbelt no helmet
It was a tragically unfortunate accident. The rules don't necessarily have to change because of it - especially without knowing what exactly happened.
