Have a 1973 NOS Carter two-barrel for my 318 I am installing to replace the original 1972 Carter two-barrel. Need to use the old bracket/stud that the air cleaner wing nut screws onto. How on earth do I remove the bracket/stud from the old carb, seems to be affixed on there forever? Is it "spring" loaded, or bent to fit? I'm not as strong as I used to be. How do I get enough leverage to pop the darn thing off? Thank you.

Foto of old carb on the left has a loop of rod that is holding the csrb stud. Need to transfer that onto the NOS carb pictured on the right.

Grab it with vise grips and pull out just enough to clear the bottom hole and slide it up on each side.

Looks like stud locks both rods into position. Can you tap stud out, then the thing would just fall apart. Or just bend it as said.

It is one piece of wire wrapped around the stud. You can also put a block of wood inside the loop and use a pair of external snap ring pliers to push out on the wire.

I just had to do this, and I just pulled the ends out with my fingers. Your mileage may vary...
