What a brilliant idea. So nice of Diane to respond to you about your build. We should be proud of our Mopar community!

Talked to him a little online in his last years...wish it had been more. VERY cool guy, and humble for such a legend.
RIP Ronnie.

Nice build! Look forward to seeing it finished.

One of the nicest guys I have ever met in a pro pit.
He was legging the Dean Thompson Mustang then........1981ish.
But I had been a fan since the late 60's.
Got to meet Jake King some years later at a local MoPar deal and get a pic of me and our attack dog next to this piece of history.

I remember reading something online that he wrote about driving a stick shift car. He went through his whole run in great detail and talked about his set up as well. It may have been a book but if anyone knows of a read like that please send me a link.

I was able to meet and talk to Ron several times,Same with Buddy. Got to be the caretaker of this 68 Cuda while it belonged to the Painter Family for several years.Met Diane after Ron's passing. GREAT lady.Being with them and the car was one of my biggest Mopar moments.

Sox & Martin is the reason I got into drag racing and why I still run a mopar with 4 speed. If it wasn't for them I would probably be a blue oval idiot

I met Ronnie and Diane at Dinwiddie years ago. I got a T-Shirt and spoke with Ronnie about 4 speeds and Barracudas. I remember Diane listening and she was enjoying the fact that Ronnie was the man. I think she really understood the whole Ronnie Sox Legend. Maybe more than Ronnie did. Good Luck with your Duster!

Great pics!

I like what you are doing...saw them many years ago at Indy.

Modracerx, Yes it is the car.Got to be there when it sold.Even though not mine it was hard to see it go. I had the honor of buying it at Barret-Jackson(for the Painter Family) in 2006. I got a call "You at the auction? Yes. The Sox car on stage? Two ahead of it.We are stuck in traffic,,Buy the car".With that I just about crapped my pants."Ok,How much? What ever it takes"....Another major Mopar moment.

wow ...man what a story ...that must have been a real adreneline rush bidding on it ...but then seeing it sold was hard as well.....almost like having kids and seeing them leave as young adults ...lol...

got to see him strap it on jenkins , nichoson, grotheer, and landy at match races. never forget it!

Ronnie was a great guy! Living in Burlington NC, my family has a lot of tie ins with Ronnie.

My Grandfather, and his cousins owned Piedmont drag way for a few years in the late '60s. That was S&Ms home track. They tried to buy the land ajoined to it to have the track extended to a 1/4mile. They were trying to get it sanctioned. The owners of the ajoining property never would sell. Piedmont is still an 1/8th mile track today.

My dad worked with his cousin as a teenager. Ronnie's cousin had a '55 Chevy that Ronnie and Jake put together for him. My dad also had a '55 at the time with a LT1 in it. So naturally, they were always racing each other to see whose faster.

My aunt was friends with Ronnie's daughter, and used to stay at there house for sleepovers. Apparently the Soxs' dogs' name was Hemi!

I used to work with Jake Kings granddaughter, Ginger. She was a real nice girl! I used to constantly ask questions about Jake. She had lots of great stories! I tried to get her to take me to her Grandmothers house to see in the garage. She said it was still full of all his stuff. Hell, she said there was a giant picture of a 'Cuda in their dining room!

Also, I know where one of Ronnie's personal Roadrunners is sitting locally in a barn. It has been there forever, and it's apparently not for sale. I'd love to sneak in and take a peak at it, but I don't wanna get shot.

I've heard tons of stories from locals, and they're all pretty consistant about how great of a guy Ronnie was. I met Ronnie several times, and he was always great to talk too.

Perks of being a Burlington resident I guess. Hell, a few weeks back I was standing in line behind Herb McCandless at O'Rileys Auto.

Herb McCandless is another that is one heck of a nice guy. Fun to talk to.

great stories .....yes herb was a great guy with the stick one of the best ....S&M new that and put him on the payroll to race there stuff....he even beat ronnie in the cuda at dallas with the duster for the wally ...fourth picture down
