For years I wanted this back, KFC is making moves in the right direction now by bringing back the good old choices.

Unfortunately, around 2021 the quality of their chicken went way the hell down.

Their "colonel's strips" got me through covid, as they were the only thing even remotely appetizing for me.

I literally ate them 2 meals a day, 5 times a week for months.

...and then one day...

...they sucked.

Night and day difference.

Now the meat is tough, chewy, and ridiculously fatty.

...and the breading doesn't stay on.

I went from "customer for life" to "never again" in weeks.

I have tried them twice since then, once in 2023 and again last year.

I'm done.

Too bad for them and for me.

In my experience it depends on location. A few spots over cook the chicken making it tough and dry, but one spot I go to gets it right 99.99% of the time. The attitude is different too, the nicer the people, the better the food.

I tried four different locations.

One location had good meat for a week, but then changed to be like the others.

Obviously a corporate change.

Trust me, It was a BIG issue for me.

We got some "gas station chicken" down here called "Charley Biggs".

It's very dependent on the location but the second closest one to me is "the bomb".
WAY better than any of the big chains.
Their thighs eat like dark meat breasts.

All the KFC restaurants have closed or moved that were near us. They used to have a great food bar. We went to see Moparker in P.A. a few years back and stopped at one. The chicken legs look like they came off a Sparrow. (LOL) alright maybe a pigeon at best. It's a shame. KFC used to be a nice go to.

Yeah, the one closest to me had a bar.

They stopped that about 6 months or a year ago.

It was purpose built, right on the counter with the register.

Now it's empty and looks odd.

Wife fries good chicken, but it is hard to get there to kill and dress the boogers! I would, but I am busy working on my toy car!
Plus I would need a a bank loan to buy KFC!

They completely closed ours, but it was partially due to a 100-year flood. It sat empty for years after the flood and then a "Cluck Bucket" chicken moved in. It didn't last long. The KFC original didn't have the assembly line style food bar but more of a diverse really well stocked "salad bar". Then a local businessman took it over and put in the style I believe you are referring to YY1. Did you walk along the counter and a server put food on the plate and hand it to you at the end? It reminded me of being in the 8th grade at the Illinois school lunch counter but at least with choices. That's what killed the one we had.

There is no substitute for the real thing! Did your wife make the "Sawmill" gravy from the fried chicken drippings? Both of my grandmothers made that homemade chicken gravy. I have never been able to master the recipe. THat stuff was the best!

Is there any other waaaay!!???
I have NEVER in my long life, had gravy from a can! Is there such a thing!??

We had a "fried chicken store" until the poor worker fell thru the floor, and into the large vat of boiling oil. God rest her soul.
Law suit and never reopened. True story.
Now the local ish grocery cooks fired chicken. Not too bad if ya get it while its hot!

IGA grocery has a "Chester fried" chicken...not bad but doesn't hold up to Grandma Beatrice or my other Grandma Beulah...LOL

I have more news! They brought them back earlier than expected. I went to the spot with the good KFC and got some tasty potato wedges. Yes, they taste good, just like I remember.

I don't enjoy vegetable oil well enough to eat @ KFC. Might be why they closed down in my area.

I got po'd at the one here---which now has moved N a ways and damn sure isn't worth the trip--they seemed like they were forever having us wait at the window for chicken. What? You have such a complicated menu you can't keep chicken cooked up?

AND THEN they brought out barbecue and whatever the other honey? BUT WOULD NOT SERVE IT through the drive up!! So I quit for a LONG time.

Anyhow one night I thought I'd at least troll up to the window and if they looked too busy, I'd just leave. As I pulled in from the street, past the entrance walk in, a couple was around the back of a car. I pulled up there, window down, and hailed them.

I said, "I've not been happy with this joint, and I was thinkin' of givin' it another try. How was it? TURNS OUT THEY WERE GOING IN!!!! LOLOL LMFAO!!!!

Also that place, before they moved, got a very run down, dirty look. I haven't eaten at KFC in at least 15 years, maybe more. That includes MacDonalds as well

When my son was five or six, he took me to a KFC for Father's Day with his birthday money.
I can't stand their food, but I ate everything he bought for me.
My little boy is the best thing that God has ever blessed me with.

All of the buffets around here closed up during COVID. Except for the Chinese places and most of them should be closed.
KFC is corporate owned around here and all have either a Long Johns or a one near by.
There is a Charley Biggs in a gas station not to far from here. I've only ever gotten a couple of chicken tenders from them. They were pretty good.
As for the potato wedges, I prefer the french fries. I'f you're going to do potato wedges, cut them fresh, and fry them up in some batter, not those fresh out of the freezer things. May as well just eat fries.

KFC does hove one saving grace that has remined mostly consistent* for it's entire run-

The pot pie.

Those are delicious.

* however, in the last couple of years, the size of the chicken pieces in them has both gotten smaller and less of them. There used to be about 5 2 inch chunks and a few smaller ones and then shavings. Now, you are lucky to get a couple 1/4"x1' inch strips.
