Boeing's new weapon

Interesting.Didn't the thugs from "WRAITH" already have this technology back in the 80's?

Wow, that is truly amazing, and frightening.
That's something we'd better protect very closely. And also something that we'd need to shield our own power grid against. Can you imagine the chaos if the US were to lose power for even a few days? Just about everything stops. The reaction of the people could do more damage to our towns, cities, states and even the country, than the weapon, itself.
The possibility of Marshall law, the possibility of anarchy.
Remember, even many emergency generators run on computerized systems.

That could very well be the single most powerful weapon since the atomic bomb. Really cool, but also quite frightening.

I's only a matter of time between having the ability to target single buildings and areas, and have the ability to target national power grids. In fact, the more concentrated we make our power grid control, the easier a weapon such as this could take out large portions of our national power grid.

Something to think about. The USSR developed their Atomic Bomb by stealing the secrets of ours because of faults in our security. The same could happen with this, obviously, because based on the secrets that have been lost over the last few decades, our top secret security is still fairly porous.

A small atomic burst in the atmosphere would do the same thing, only to a much larger area.

Has anyone seen the TV show "Revolution" that came on last year??
We would be just like the TV show.

What if our enemy is already living in the stone ages?
America's enemy is not Islamic terrorists; America's targeted enemy is Americans..... But, that's a discussion for a different forum.

Luckily, my '76 Duster will be largely unaffected by such a weapon, as it has no computer-controlled devices; it is all an analog system dependent on a gasoline engine to turn a generator (alternator) to create current to actively power simple decision-making machines, such as the distributor. :) The Mazda stereo someone hacked into the dash might get screwed with, but who cares when you got a 318 making all the music you need!? :D

Also, there is a very simple countermeasure to this device; FARADAY CAGE. It is basically conductive shielding wrapped around a structure and grounded. Best way to make it is with fine brass screen, though aluminum and steel storm door screen works just as well. Add a few inches of dead-space for electrical insulation, and your structure could survive a direct hit of lightning and everything inside will be safe. :)

We've had this for a while. So do our enemies. It destroys electronic, which also wipes out your power and water, sewage communications, etc. Supposedly, it will wipe out the computer in your car (be nice to have old cars). No country would dare use it, as back-ups on the missile systems would allow huge retalitory hits. But the jihadists? They don't care.

Supposedly, fiber optics are immune to this type of attack as well. I know they're supposed to be immune to an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) put out by the detonation of an atomic bomb, but I'm not sure about high-frequency microwave energy such as this.

Another thing to consider is this: Once the cruise missle employing this weapon has run its course, does it fly back to where it was launched or does it crash land somewhere, potentially allowing non-friendlies to find it and possibly salvage the technology?

Most likely has an onboard thermite charge that is set to destroy whatever secrets it has before anyone can discover them...

Precisely.

Most of us are aware of the mini-panic that causes people to empty the super market shelves of bread, milk, bottled water and eggs, when the weatherman says that some sort of severe weather is approaching. Imagine the mindset if something were to take out power, water, communication and so on....

we've seen what can happen on a very limited basis with Katrina and Sandy. Now add to that the inability of responders to respond, because they too are out of power and even their generators and vehicles won't start. Even toilets don't work, because there is no water supply to allow flushing.

Add to that the possibility or even just the rumor of an enemy attack, and you have a pretty good mixing bowl for anarchy.

This is a very powerful weapon, not only for its ability to disrupt and disable, but also for it's ability to create panic, confusion, and lawlessness.

Remember the looting during Katrina, and that even included the New Orleans police.

We have stuff way more advanced than that. But it won't be exposed or revealed for 20 years when they become obsolete and replaced with things we won't know about then.
