Brainstormin' 440 vs 5.9 ...

-
With all the discussion, it has made me curious. I think with headers, and fresh 452 heads, it should push about 300 + horsepower. I'll probably start with the street dominator and my 750 Brawler. Tune from there. So, we'll try it in slug form, or slow motion first LOL. Unless it goes 15's, then I'll say "why bother?" and go back to the 5.9 :D Then again, my 100% stock-never-taken-apart 318 with the only addition of 4bbl/headers ran it well into the 15's, I'm expecting slightly more with 122 cubes, and much better heads.
  • I do think I'll have to drop my gears from 4.30's down a bit. 440 will run out of lungs in 800 ft. :p
Well, yeah, an RV 440 without a cam change will quit well shy of 5000. Maybe shy of 4000! The 390 hp 440 Sixpack horsepower was at a rated 4700.
Maybe you could try some 15x33s?

I can just throw 3.23's in it. RV 440 should love them... but I'll try the 4.30's first and a quick cruise will let me know

We’ll burn that bridge when we cross it then. Stick to the stock-ish plan for now.
She'll be "as-is" for the first go-around. We'll develop a plan while she's in there, however, I don't want to miss Speedmaster's 40% off sale (if they do it) if they have something that is good for the build.

I’ve never used speed master stuff, but I’ve also never heard of anything “good” from them. Hopefully others will have some firsthand experience for you.

Tony (aarcuda) used the stainless on one of his small block engines, said they worked great.
He had photo's comparing the PRW and speedmaster arms, they looked identical in the pics and according to him (in his hand). pics and his experience is somewhere in the archives.
I'm using the PRW arms on one of my big blocks, so far so good. Had to correct the geometry as the underside of the arm was too close to the spring retainer.

I've used their small block intakes and heads. I give what I've used two thumbs up! No issues whatsoever.

I have a set of the offset aluminum sm rockers for victor/Victor copy heads. I bought them cheap on a black friday sale. I have NOT done anything with them yet.
I'm gonna use the Victor's on a 522, but I'm planning on a fairly conservative cam, so gonna try the sm rockers. If run into any problems, I'll have to bite the bullet and get the $1200 rockers. If I need to do that, I might as well put a big cam in too.
