How long until I should change out the break in oil? An RB with all new/rebuilt internals. It still looks and smells good...I would say only about 4 hours of run time on it, no drive time, but lots of heat cycles to temperature. I used the Motul 10w40 break in oil. Going in with VR1 high zinc stuff, or Driven 10w40. (I have both). Going to cut the filter up to check for any surprises.

4 hours? I would change it. You will get the most wear and contamination in the first hour I would say..

Different engines, require different procedures. A normal street engine......if everything is working correctly, you're already good to go.

I usually go about a 1/2 hour on the break in then change it. Then I go about 500 miles and change it again. Then, normal oil changes. All with the proper oils for the particular engine.

I get it though.... when you spend a stack of money on the break in oil, you be wishin' you could run it longer. Haha.

I agree with @318willrun on the procedure.

Agree

I break in cam, go drive for 10-15 minutes. Change oil and pour in another 5 qts of break in oil. Go 250-300 miles and change it and use Driven or VR1.

I can remember in the 80/90s my cheap *** friends used the cheapest oil they could find. Their theory was that u were changing it after break in anyways. No one had a cam fail though. I guess better metal back then. Kim

when i did my 360 i went buy what the guys at driven racing oil recommend.

break In the cam with break in oil.

change oil.

put 500 miles on fresh break in oil

change to a normal oil and go. :)

Going to change it out for the 10w30 VR1. Then the Driven 10w40 for first normal oil change after some miles. If TTI would hurry the fk up and send me my tail pipes I could get my exhaust done and drive the dog shiz out of it. It really wants to run indicated by the accidental burn out marks I left on my garage floor. I just tapped the gas to pull it out, Sure grip works anyway....
Thanks for responses. I spend so much time reading posts here to see other's experiences, all very valuable and immensely entertaining when the inevitable pissing contest's ensue. :)
