Bull Run Or Bull Crap?

-
Come on you guys got no spirit =P~ I signed up for the show cause I loved the first season.... but maybe that's cause I like reality shows AND cars.... and I love it when old Muscle cars beat newer cars LOL....

I seen it, thought it was alright. I hope they show more of your Dart, way cooler than that stupid Ferrari and Super Worm! So, who wins the the whole shebang??? Come on....you can tell us!!

goldberg is the man...he loves mopars too! that whole tuff guy act is what they pay him for- the cheesy tv persona, but he loves mopars and from other places seems like a really cool guy....Goodluck team dart! I am not a fan of biggies for wheels either, but to each his own...i hope you raped those evo guys there just ****...and the corvette guy needs a fashion counsellor/hair dresser appointment pronto

Well, here's my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. :-D

1. Looks like a poker run or Hot Rod Power Tour with an auto carnival after the checkpoint. This was not a race. I was expecting to see something like the Silver State Challenge, now that's a RACE!!!

2. The ferrari kid seemed like a punk at first but he could freakin' drive. I have to respect him for that. His russian girlfriend could shoot too. Gotta respect that to.

3. I agree with demonseed, I dismiss loud, pushy people pretty damn quick. That being said, Goldberg has to act a certain way, it's his persona and his living. I know someone who met him personally and BS'd with him for about an hour. He said that he's probably one of the most real, personable person he's ever met. A real regular guy.

4. Team Porsche got what they deserved, came off as a couple of goombas.

5. The peckerheads in the 4 door jap thing need a good *** kicking. :thebirdm:

6. The bozo in the corvette wouldn't intimidate in me in the least. WTF, elevator shoes and eyeliner? Sorry kid, your dissmissed from auto shop. Your gonna get your hair caught in a fan.

7. I like team dart (our guys) and team camaro from witchita. I'll bet I may have even run into them when I was there. The guys from W seem serious as a heart attack. I knew alot of these guys (my x was from Witchita) and they are studied, serious people who take their craftsmanship personally. I'ts a relatively small city and all these builders know each other. It's a matter of personal pride.

Team Dart, I dig your ride but don't tell me you "raced" 4000 miles on a stroker stock block therefore a stock block is fine at over 550 hp for "racing". My idea of race and yours are two different things.

That being said, I hope you all win and kick some butt. What you have done is still quite impressive as many cars can't do what yours can on the both the street and track and great job! I hope to see both these teams set off car alarms across the US. :-D

BTW, you guys need to enter this race. http://www.silverstateclassic.com/history.htm

Flame on everone, I can take it lol!

It's pretty good entertainment. I'm just glad they have an A-body on the show.

Yea, we're already thinking about entering the silver state challenge, the Pantera team talked us into it LOL. We're planning something nasty in the works, but we'll see how it goes. We would really like something that could compete with the TPI Camaro but that would be a feat in itself. We might not have been "wide open" for 4000 miles, but we have 100's of passes on this motor, and has been through 3 cars now..... doing the Bullrun in our opinion is just the ultimate way to show, when things are done right, these motors can live... we've changed head gaskets and that's about it. Going 4000 miles with all the racing on this motor is a personal achievement to us..... but it's still a race, just with a bracket, no different than running an 11 second bracket.... it gives us all a chance. And the motor ran great all the way from Below Sea Level, to 12,000 feet altitude, without even a jet change.... EFI can go suck it :-D And to be honest, the Corvette guys were some great guys, don't let the Hollywood/LA look fool you, The Driver is 40 years old and has been through his share of Muscle cars.... In all most of the cast of Bullrun were great people.... and we also hope to do the real Bullrun Rally next summer.... but only time will tell. But I will admit we won't be racing a stroker stock block motor for it though.... RPM's aren't our friend lol

The only reason I watch Bullrun is for the Mopars, if they didn't have one, wouldn't watch, lmao, I'm hoping to see more Dart next week, I think because there are so many cars that they choose certain teams to follow as the episodes progress.

Good to hear your honest feedback and not take my critisiem (sp?) to heart. I am amazed to hear that the elevation changes had no effect living knowing that I live here @ a mile high. I'm running 10.2 C/R with open chamber smog heads and a tiny cam 213/220 IIRC @ 34 degrees advance total. Granted I did set my flat tops @ zero with a .040 Cometic gasket but quench was limited to about .040 around the chamber with the heads milled to achieve a 65cc chamber. Tons "O" torque in the Ramcharger and as I have posted before, I have beat BMW X3's (my x's lol!) off the line with 33x12.5 tires and 3.55 gearing. Not to mention that these trucks are have the NP203 cast iron transfer case that are full time 4WD.

I actually had ended up jeting far richer than I would have thought at this altitude (Read: Density altitude here at Bandimere can excede 10,000 feet).

Now listen to me. There is a huge difference between bracket racing at full throttle a 1/4 mile @ a time vs. cruising a checkpoint. Call me liar. It's the truth. **** breaks when you last expect it if you're not racing throttle plate restrictions. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong at WFO.

Think of the power you are losing in high heat/duration situations. The bore IS distorting. That's something you won't see with a leak down test. BTW, you got any leak down test readings before and after the race? Just curious.

Again, please don't think I'm thinking I'm giving you and your dad too much crap, I'm just always thinking of ways to do things better. I hope when all is said and done on TV that you all will fire up the ultimate silver state challenge. Your bud with the pantera has a clue. They originally had a 351C, was it stroked? They said 408, but then again, it is TV, lol!

BTW, FK that TPi camaro: Check this out for a bit of inspiration: Turn up the sound!!!!!

He eats shellbys and ferrari's for lunch!!!!!!

Turn it up!! This is Racing!!!!!

This is what my truck sounds like with a small block 360 with a tiny Lunati cam, just wait till my dusters done...

That is pure mopar BB reality!!! Ye fkn ha!!!

Joe

BTW, ever get some times with some traction?

And........?

What do you mean "and" LOL, oh allright. Next I'm putting in a line lock cuss these puppies got to be hot to work properly but so far have shed 4 tenths off my time. Seems that only laying 5 feet of rubber makes the car quicker than laying down 15. Go figure.

Suprise suprise, lol. I knew that black beauty had more to give than the times had revealed....:cheers:

Agian, what a smokin' ride!!!!

It over yet Joe, thinking of going to the Hughes BB roller rockers, solid lifter cam and changing intake manifolds to something a little more high tech. Oh yea and a tighter converter.

Didn't leak down test the motor before and after the Bullrun. Just wasnt on the to-do list with only two days to prepare lol. As we both know there is power to be had with jetting changes at different elevations. From the dyno I've kept track with a air density meter and reading my chart of Holley Jet inside area to make accurate jetting changes at the track. But we weren't worried about power too much.... until we seen the Supersnake making 725hp LOL.... The TPI Camaro made 600hp@5700rpm, all aluminum motor. And the Pantera was running a 408 and dyno'd at 480rwhp. But only in some challenges you're using the horsepower, some you're using handling, some you're using drag style launchs, mostly driver skill challenges. We geared the car for better road manners, which of course changed everything lol.... but then again I can contort a cylinder bore with my bare hands.... don't even want to think about real heat lol! I also crew for boat racing crews, where cylinder distortion and heat play ALOT more into consideration than a car motor with a radiator.... 500 miles in a boat at 100% load and no dry sump can really F stuff up... so I think we'll do fine building a road race style motor.... I think the hardest part is picking a high HP big block, or a lighter screamer small block.... hmmm.....

personally id like to see a lowly mid block built("b" motor) perferably a 383 i know they can make great power and can rev fairly high

Wow! You can distort a cylinder with your bare hands! Now I'm really impressed! JK man. We both know about bore distortion under stress after the fact. Yes your emperical experence far surpasses mine on v-8's. I've only built about 8 for myself starting in '83 with a 351C. I've built about 200+ motorcyle engines ranging from nikasil lined dirtbikes to turbo kaws and zuks. One guy was on the news from indiana back to IL. He got busted but the engine never broke. :)

I've got three class championships, two @ union grove and one here at Bandimere, all racing drag bikes. 12000 rpm can be fun..... 8)

No dry sump and bouncing in the wet... I would imagine would be hell, did you mig up your own pans?

Pantera guys have the whole unsprung weight advantage, not mention the weight distribrution advantage.... I would think....

Mopar aluminum block are availible too. Of course they are 48 degree.:read2: and motor mount plate only. I'm thinking that the Witchita boys did good? lol! My x and I are seperated otherwise I'd know...

Well hell, I hope you all did great in this and any other challenge that you may decide to enter and damn.... with your experience I would think that with a few mods 8) of your choice, you could kick some butt @ the Silver State!!! Make us proud!!!

Careful, if I get some funding I might be right on your butt.... Or maybe passing y'all, lol!!! What an embassment if some dumb *** motorcycle/garage mechanic would beat ya at the Silver State with a Plymouth in 2010!!! Lol!

BTW, olddart has a point.. I'd start with a 400 though.

Damn, 600hp @ 5700..... Can't ever discount an old guy with glasses from Kansas. I know this personaly. He looked just like my x's dad.

Tighter, not looser converter? Brother, if it was me I'd go solid roller lifters and a eddie victor, mpg be dammed. Oh yeah, and a 440 crank. :love7: You know were I'm going with this....

Posts: 75 Didn't leak down test the motor before and after the Bullrun.

Do it. The seats will set after heating/cooling in alum heads and the 45 degree seats will not be at 45 now..... They will need a touch up.

So. Do ya'll hate me yet? lol!

If I came across like I had more experience, I apologize. You do have more experience than me. Our valve surface seats aren't at 45* to start with so they I probably won't put them to 45* lol. I've honestly only built around 9 or so V8's as well.... I've done quite a few single cylinder motorcycle builds though :-D I'm learning as I go.... don't claim to be an engine guru and never will. I didn't build the engine in the Dart at the time, and have only built 2 Mopar's myself, mostly BBF's, and one BBC. I've made mistakes here and there, and try and learn from them, and I know I will make more mistakes... and hopefully learn from those too. Probably 50% or more of the members here on this site have 5x's the experience I have. I'm young, and hope to keep these V8's roaring for years to come instead of HonDuh's.... We are a father/son team, so i am only speaking for myself. Like I said, if I came across as an arrogant kid I apologize, because I still have much to learn.

P.s. Here's a pic of my Raptor 700 I made a turbo kit for.... been doing some trial and error with different gulp capacity's and different turbo's... but it's just another one of those "play with it as I go" deals, fortunately (:-D) one of the crank bearings has just seized.... so I'm planning on going bigger and better... but we'll see...

You Team Dart guys have nothing to apologize for. At least you are doing it. If you want to build a higher performing engine and/or car for future ventures, there is no better place to gain MoPar knowledge than right here at FABO.

Everybody here is with you.

My hats off to Team Dart! I think it's a good show, Goldberg is a Mopar guy, There's a Mopar on the show, what more can you ask for! No negativity here!
Go team Dart! I like the idea of a E-body on Bullrun. This is what I think it should look like. cool huh?
