Cheapest way to tow my car- Truck Rental?

U- Haul tow dolly. It's a 2 wheel dolly that you pull your front wheels onto, strap it down and hook up the dolly to your car or truck. Be cheaper than renting a truck or trailer.

Why rent from 2 different places? Uhaul for both truck and trailer. Make sure you tell them you're towing a "dumb car" so the GVW is low. Oh before you return truck, see if their tires will fit your wheels 
Don't forget to disconnect your driveshaft if towing like this.
U Haul has flatbed trailers as well.

I bet, just make sure it has hitch, ask them.
You can rent both from u haul.
I would rent the truck and trailer combo
The dolly I would stay away from. You have to pull the drive shaft if the car is an automatic.
Also double check with you haul.unless they have a new design the dolly type are not recommended for backing up.

One way rentals also if that helps. My son just used haul to get this out of my garage a few months ago.
If you go to a good Uhaul location they'll be knowledgeable on the setup.
Some just let whatever happen but the one I go to come out and inspects before they turn you loose.
Agree on avoiding the dolley. Lots of weirdness can happen with those

If you rent a u-haul car transport I think the smallest thing they’ll rent you to tow it is a 15’ box truck.
That was what their policy when I rented a U-Haul truck to pull on of their car trailers anyway, and I was towing a smaller car than an a-body. But that was quite awhile ago so it may have changed.
You asked for the cheapest way. A long chain and a piece of pipe.

Nothing is cheap anymore.
A candy bar around here costs more than a gallon of gas.
Penske won't rent a car trailer without also renting you a small dual wheel moving truck.
Due to liability issues by using a truck too small for the job, there's no bring your own truck with them.
Uhaul allowed me to use my own truck, but before allowing me to rent the trailer, they quizzed me pretty well about the size of the car going on the trailer and the towing capacity of the pickup.

Yeah it was pretty dumb driving an empty box truck almost 400 miles just to tow a ~2,000 lb car on a U-Haul car transporter.
Although not as dumb as having my old man drive it both ways with a car trailer. Putting a ‘56 Healey 100 that’s been lowered for vintage racing on a U-Haul car transporter is pretty dumb by itself though (had to back the trailer into a hill to keep the ramps level).
Although on that note, a lowered A-body might not be much easier. I know my Duster would probably require some gymnastics at its current ride height.
I prefer a tire strapped to one end and a chain.. LOL

If the tires will fit between the inner tire wells maybe some 3/4 plywood to strengthen the floor find a way to secure it and a set of ramps to get it in there.one way rental.

Having put a car into the back of a box truck before, the real issue is the ~20’ ramps you need to get the approach and break-over angles to work. Uhauls might have a lower deck than the box truck we used, but it’s still gonna be a pretty long ramp…
