I'd like to know the difference between a orange and chrome ignition boxes pros and cons too both.thanks

The orange box is suppose to be good up to 6000 RPM. The chrome box is good to 8000 RPM. I like the chrome box better for drag racing.

The chrome box provides spark. The orange box provides frustration when it fails all the time.
They used to be great. Somewhere along the way, the orange ECUs quality fell off of a cliff.

Would not use an orange box, quality is nill. The FBO box and coil is a very good unit. Built in rev control and full 12 volts to coil.

I used an Orange box for about 4 years, beginning in 99. It gave me no trouble and reved to 7000 on a regular basis. I passed on the Chrome on account of the advice in the Direct Connection Bulletins book, that said something to the effect of; not recommended for prolonged use below such and such rpm, due to overheating issues; as I recall.
I wouldn't install one today, on account of there are better options now. I think Trailbeast is supplying an HEI module that sounds pretty attractive.

For years, the orange box was the one included in the Mopar Performance electronic ignition package. When I converted my 70 Charger to electronic in 2000, the orange ECU was in the box. It lasted for several years.
I have converted several other A body cars to electronic just using factory wire harnesses from 73-76 A body cars. The electronic OEM distributors are rock solid in design. Currently I have a Chrome box in my Charger. The Power Wagon has a stock black one from 1975 ! My 67 Dart is still points ignition because I have not got around to converting it.

I believe the "Gold" box said no prolonged use on the street. I have run my chrome box like crazy all over the place, zero issues. Close to 2 decades now.

My FBO box is still working. Many years now. Nice unit.

I have 1 and only 1 orange box last. It's on a shelf as a relic.
