How much power and how streetable it is, or not, is up to the end user and there vision and tolerance.Anyone running a Comp Cams... # 20-633-5
XTQ290S-6 (Solid flat tappet)
(260/266 lift 1.5 0.558/555)
In a 408 stroker? If so what power does it make and how streetable is it?
Thanks
Thanks guys...
I find it really interesting that no one appears to be using the Comp Cams XTQ290S-6 in a 408 stroker; not just on this forum but general google searches. Aim is 570-600HP (80% Drag, 20% Street).
On the Comp Cams website search feature with the following basic Search Parameters:
1) Engine = 273-360cui
2) Type = Solid Flat
3) RPM Range = 4,000-7,000 (Max RPM for my motor is 6,800. The stroker should drop the RPMs)
Comp Basic Search page Chrysler & Dodge - Camshafts - Products
The Comp Cams Search spits out the following 4 cams:
Option A) 277MM (Oval Track series) #20-631-5 251/255 (@.050) 0.570/0.582 (1.5:1) LSA 108 The MM profiles are the most aggressive Comp Grinds for a Mopar 0.904 lifter, so I don’t want to be on the bleeding edge of performance/reliability.
Option B) 306S (Magnum series) #20-249-4 260/260 (@.050) 0.555/0.555 (1.5:1) LSA 110
Option C) 290A-6 (Drag Race series) #20-249-4 255/255 (@.050) 0.540/0.540 (1.5:1) LSA 106
Option D) XTQ290S-6 (Oval Track/Strip series) #20-633-5 260/266 (@.050) 0.558/0.555 (1.5:1) LSA 106 This cam was the same cam that was recommend by Comp Cams after I filled out the detailed cam request form.
I’m looking for people with real world experience with any of these four cams in a 408 stroker by the XTQ290S-6 in particular would be great. Cheers.
Note: The other cams that I have been contemplating are:
Lunati VooDoo # 30200742 251/259 546/566 LSA 110
Lunati VooDoo # 30200743 259/267 566/586 LSA 110
Crane F-256/383-2S-8 # 690931 256/260 575/585 LSA 108
Crower 304FDP # 31312 250/254 581/595 LSA 108
Hughes various STL5054 or STL5460 or STL6064 LSA 108
Harder to do from Australia.
I'm using the Hughes cam that is 1 step larger than the last cam you listed (HUG STL6468AS-8). In my 408 with ported heads Edelbrocks it makes about the power you are looking for (570-600hp). I'm also about 25% street and 75% race....very happy with the cam.
Yeah, less options and parts in stock. I’m running out of time for my build. My bad. I didn't see he was upside down. Then a shelf cam or a cam someone stocks down there is probably the best option.
The heads were a "stage II port" from Ryan Johnson (fully ported). The engine is 13:1 compression running on e85, Victor intake (port matched by me), I have 2 carbs that run the same. The first is a 750dp e85 carb that I built, the second is a new Holley XP 950 e85 carb. They both run the same for some odd reason, low 10's in the 1/4.Hi Fly, I’d love to make that sort of power. How much work have you done to the heads? Valves? Also, what comp ratio? Intake manifold, carby cfm? Thanks
