Guys, got a question for those with experience with either of these cams.

Rebuilding my 452 in my 67 Belvedere. I'm putting it back on the street, and have mad a few small changes.

It now has 3.73 gears in the rear with a 27inch ET Radial tire. Has a 727 in it, and will be running the engine with 440 Source Stealth heads, 10.5 to 1 compression, and 3 inch exhaust. Has a set of Headman 1 3/4 inch headers on it. Gonna run it on E85 and eventually go to the FI Tech fuel injection. Have a 9.5 inch PTC converter that I will be sending back to PTC to have reworked for the changes made to the car. Will advise them of the cam selection at that time, so the converter is not a factor here.

Question is about the drivability of the combo using these two cams. Mainly wondering about the XE295, and how it acts on the street with a similar combo as mine.

Looking to be able to drive the car anywhere, and run somewhere around 7.30's at our 1/8th mile track.

Tell me about these cams, and thanks in advance.

The 285 will be a little easier to deal with on the street than the 295. Both are sort of large on duration for a hyd cam at 241 and 251 at .050 respectively. Both are going to be a bit raspy at idle.

Brain had a XE295hl in the Car Craft 408 SB engine. Ran real good, had a nasty idle, wasn't too crazy. All in what you can handle.

Driving anywhere, I'd probably go with the XE285HL over the 295 model.

I have the 285 in my 68 gtx and a 295 in a 69 roadrunner both are street friendly with the right convertor drive them both anywhere, but the 295 is way better sounding, it sound pretty damn nasty, in a real good way

Have you ever ran either at the track?

I have the 295hl in a 499. If you look around (moparts) you'll see the reports that they are a bit noisy. I never cared for the lifters. I'll be going solid next trip.

Just as a comparison, what do you guys think of the Lunati Voodoo or Bootlegger cams?

Never ran a Lunati. Any opinions on their stuff, especially their lifters?

Here's a couple videos of the XE285HL in a 410.
I like it, but haven't run anything else. Revs quick and no issues on the street other than loud and clacky lifter noise with the hood up.
Hope this helps.

I ran my gtx and the best it did was 11.89 with a set of 3.91 gears, never ran the road runner although its about the same motor it would surly be quicker. the comp lifters are definitely noisy with the hoods up on both cars!

A friends Dyno sheet from a 440 with 440 source heads and XE275HL

Contrary to the BS you'll read, it makes PLENTY of power below the pull to kill the tires on a 73 Cuda, 4 speed, 3.23 rear and 275/60/15 tires.
