I got a deer tick in my chest the other day. It was probably in for around 6-8 hours.
Pulled it out and the head stayed in. That was yesterday. Today i have the target shaped concentric rings around the bite.

Took out my knife and opened it up, used some tweezers and i think i got most of the head out now.

What i found on the net says as long as the tick is removed with in 24, 36 hours the odds of lyme disease are very slim.

It hand not started to feed as ot was still quite small and not engorged.

I had a buddy whos dad died from complications of lyme disease so im a little concerned. How worried do you folks think i should be? Should i be making a doctor's appointment?

Ive always been the kinda guy who dont go to the doctor but now ive got a women who is VERY concerned and some things that i want to be around for so.... you guys who have experience whit these bastards, what do ya think?

Yes, make a doctors appointment. Lyme disease caught early is easily treatable. Wait until you have a full blown case and you may suffer the consequences for years...or maybe even the rest of your life.

I have a friend who ignored it until it was too late. Now he is on permanent disability and suffers everyday.

You have seen the bullseye, therefore you are infected. Get medical help immediately.

      Yeah make a doctors appointment.

Better to know for sure instead of thinking you’re ok.

X3. You're not OK, get checked & treated ASAP,...that S#@T is nothing to F*#K with...........I've been bitten twice by female deer ticks, but I caught them within an hour, and upon removing/saving them monitored the bite closely. Luckily no signs or obvious symptoms, it's been years now so I feel I'm in the clear, but I removed them intact & disinfected the site immediately. In Your shoes, I'd be getting checked out pronto.

Not something i would wait around to see what happens. and then there is the new one, the lone star tick. Once bitten you develop an allergy to red meat.

I was in Bryn Athyn PA in 1992, and it was a hotspot for Lyme's disease. Most of the residents had been bit by deer ticks, and treated immediately and didn't have any issues. I was bit by two deer ticks and removed them right away. I was told to look for the rings or other abnormal skin issues. The doctor never gave me anything, and I apparently lucked out. But I went to the doctor within hours of finding rh little buggers. Play it safe, and make an appointment.

                Tick Key : Cabela's

We live in a wooded area and my girl is a real tick magnet, in the summer months it's not uncommon to pull 3 of the little politicians (bloodsuckers) off of her

This key works great, first time every time
(It also works on the cat)

If I couldn't get into to physically see a Doctor I would go to Urgent Care to get looked at. If a tick bite leaves a mark it needs to be looked at pronto.

What part of the country did you get it. Northeastern part of the country is Lyme disease. When I was doing maneuvers is North Carolina we (my squad in the Army) got into a bad infestation of them. We had them on us for a few days in places I don’t want to talk about. We turned out ok. Go to Doctor so they can treat it.

The bold part is all you need to know. Get medical intervention immediately. That sign means infection of Lyme disease.

I now live in the santa Cruz mountains, California.

Im sure the bastard came off the dog and got in the bed.

Ive been around ticks all my life, hunting, camping, hiking but this is the first time the bastard got me.
Going to see the doctor tomorrow at 3:20.
They already prescribed me some medication that I will pick up tomorrow.

Thank guys. If i hadn't asked you guys i would have just shrugged it off.

The fact that i was an EMT for a while i know what infections look like and this is what they look like. I traced around the infected area with a pen and hopefully it stays inside the circle untill i get to the doctor. If it grows larger by the morning i may try and move up my appointment.

                        Thanks for setting me straight.

I got it twice and treated right away. No long term problems for me. I have several friends (all in the same family) and two of the three nearly died even after 30 day antibiotic treatment. I guess some people are more sensitive to this disease than others. This is not a joking matter. Glad to hear that you are seeing the doc!

A person with Lyme can test negative over and over again. The best advice I know of is save the tick. Get in touch with the university of Massachusetts, Amherst. @tickreport.com. They will give you a case # you write that # on a baggie with the tick in it. Send it. For $60, in 3 days they will tell you if it is positive for Lyme. Money well spent!

If you can talk a dr. Into giving you doxycycline right now you can treat it prophylactically, which means before they setup camp in side of you. They are little screw shaped worms called spirochete. I used doxy in conjunction with a natural medicine that is derived from the plant, cat’s claw. It took a long time to shake. If you have a bullseye any good dr. Should treat you as if you are positive.

Wow all these responses realy shine a light on something i was thinking was not a big deal. I have a very strong immune system. Thanks to being raised out side in the dirt.

Honestly its probably time i see a doc. I aint been to one in over 20 years. Last time i went was when i suffered a serious accident at the company i workd for. I got crushed by a heavy chunk of steel. Honestly i should have checked out right there but i got lucky. Now days pain is an old friend.

I was raised as a mans man and to a large extent i pride my self on that but itit no longer just my life, i share my life with a great women so i gotta stick around for a bit longer. Not to mention i aint turned my little fab shop into something that can afford me a fancy car yet!!

At some point i want to be the guy with the cool car vs just build them for people....:usflag:

                                This!!!!
My grand daughter got bit by one of those things.
She, being a she, didn't say anything for a couple weeks.
When we finally found out, it was Lyme disease.
Treatment was a serious round of antibiotics.
But she still complains of knee pain and I'm worried its a long term problem.
                                Get that stuff checked out!

In my short time here (40 years). Ive lived way more than most of the normal city folks im around now and i cant thank my folks enough for that.

The down side of that is ive taken my fair share of hard hits.

10 years getting paied to slide on snow in areas most folks will never see.
                                  Motorcycles, dirt bikes..
Got smooshed by a few hundred pounds of steel falling out of the sky.
When i was younger we always said "I'd rather live hard, get hurt now and live the dream before we get old and it really hurts."

Well guess now im old beacuse im worried about getting hurt......
Still ticking but serious joint pain is something i will live with from now till the end. i dont want to make it worse if i can help it.

But hell if it is a dang little bug off the dog on the couch next to me then i count my self lucky to have had a great time, a great lady and and a few awesome dogs.

X 2!! Don't mess around with this. Go see a doctor now. I have a buddy who may loose his hand and if not, may never be able to use it again because he waited. And I've had my share of things happen as well.

If your doctor can't see you same day, get to hospital emergency room or one of the new urgent care facilities that are going up everywhere.

                                  All the best to you,

I had 2, different, bites, several years ago, on My stomach. I had "bullseyes" both times. I went to a Doctor, and got the pill treatment. - I still test positive, for Lyme Disease. So far, so good - no problems.

Cope; If you have the rings, you have lyme disease. Get to a doctor or clinic TODAY. Doxycycline is the first choice of antibiotic treatment. Get 30 days of doxy. [the spirochetes have a ~28 day reproductive cycle]. Don't wait for a blood test to show results. The first test [elisa] is of little value unless it shows positive. The second test [Western Blot] is more accurate, but not great. The best lab of the W.Blot test is 93% accuracy by their own claims.

I doubt the tick was on you only for several hours. That's usually not enough time for them to infect you. A deer tick goes through different stages. When in the larval stage, they are barely visible. And you usually don't feel them or see them. Once they dig into you they leave a tender red spot with a tiny black spot in the middle. The black spot is the tick.

Consider yourself lucky! Only about half of tick victims get the bullseye rash.

Deer ticks carry many other diseases.
