Dodge Brothers history: Helped Henry Ford get started.

THAT is very interesting. Frankly in some ways, I don't have a lot of respect for Henry Ford, who was very hard on people including his own family. I'm sure he's a huge part of the reason that Edsel died very young.

I heard Henry Ford asked Horace Dodge to fix an assembly line. Horace gave Henry a bill for $5500 for the service. Ford was furious. Horace said 500 to fix the problem, 5000 for the brains to know what to fix!

Ford, the Dodge Brothers, Walter P... These guys all knew each other and work with each other. They were all pioneers in the same game.

btw... being in business then meant you were a hard nose. There are stories, good an bad, about all the auto industry tycoons. Being a nice guy wasn't an option if you planned to be a success. As to who was a butthead depends on who's bio you're reading and who wrote it. ;)

Edsel died from a disease that is preventable today....IIRC.

A few years ago, I read a book about Henry Ford and the Ford company...it's called Wheels For The World.......very, very good reading.
It talks about Alfred Sloan, Walter Chrysler, the Dodge Brothers, Holley, Henry Leland, and others.
IIRC, it is said that HF only ever cried twice in his life....When his best mate, T. Edison, and his only son, Edsel, died.
