I have two flowmaster exhausts just sitting off of a camaro. I was wondering about how much would it cost to get a specialist to weld them up. Also would it be easier and cheaper to have an X or and H dual? Another question is, is it a good idea? Or is it easier just to take off the old exhaust and put the flowmaster on?.

Thanks guys.

First thing you will encounter is that the trans crossmember is only cut out on the drivers side for the exhaust to pass through. You should take the trans crossmember off and modify it for a dual exhaust system, otherwise you will have to run the pipe under the crossmember, restricting the flow and hanging it dangerously low to the ground.

As for the cost to have the Camaro system fitted, thats anyones guess. Do you have a mom and pop exhaust center in your area?? One that knows old cars?? If you have some time, go to a couple local cruise-ins and ask around as to who did exhaust work on the cars there. Try to pick cars that have a nice exhaust job done and are similar in configuration to yours. If you have to go to a large chain store, you will probably not get the quality or knowledge needed to do work on your older car.

Of course, all this is just my opinion, but the crossmember is something I know a little bit about. Included is a couple pics of the crossmember conversion I was doing a little while back. I was charging $60.00 for a blasted and painted drop-in unit, and this is the kind of conversion you need to get duals through the passenger side!! Hope all this helps, Geof

i have 66 dart gt with 360 and magnum manifold, i had some one install 2.5 inch dual pipe just before the axle with x pipe and supplied my own muffler for 300 bucks.

I'm not a big fan of duals on a small cube motor. Maybe it's an old school thing, I don't know. But most small cube motors I've seen respond really well to a well thought large single exhaust. For instance, on my 318 I am doing for my D150 I will come off the 2.5" header collectors, into a Flowmaster "Y" and into a single 3" exhaust pipe. Now with a 340 or 360 or bigger, I think duals are a real benefit. I think it really aids low end torque for a small cube motor to use a well thought out single exhaust. Mopar must have too, because the 273 never had duals....except on the D Dart.

I agree with Stroker. Duals are cool but a good single system is hard to beat. Ma Mopar had a nice single system on the early HP A body cars. I went with the Accurate single system. It works good, and works good. If you want more noise you could install a different muffler. You could purchase the Y pipe and have your local exhaust shop build the rest. tmm http://www.accurateltd.com/A-Body-HiPo-Exhaust-System_p_195.html

Here is my dual system on my 66 cuda [simular to 66 darts undercarrage] my exhaust is 1 7/8 from manifold to bottom of firewall 2 1/4 [no x or h pipe] to the muffler bumped up to 2 1/2,magnaflow magnapacks bumped back down to 2 1/4 to the bumper bumped up to 2 1/2 for s.s. tips, all alumnized tubing stainless mufflers and tips and labor 500$ out the door. My request was i want it to make small children cry and my exhaust shop did a great job,we here at the Red neck Garage beleve if you can't hear it it ain't worth hav'in.

Nice job Lou. You got your moneys worth there. They do nice work!

Stroker and Tool are spot on, more torque through a/the single, and if you want some noise, ditch the muff and just run the "S" square tip.

Thanks,I am very happy with his job the car had y piped 2 inch duals with flomasters on it since i bought it [Midass mufflers abortion] and when i lowered it the pipes in the rear would not clear the axle so i had to do axle dumps [which i dispise] and i got tired of the smell and noise so i went for it. It's loud inside but after i install some sound deadning it shoud be quieter [not that i care] i love the sound, sounds like the old school thrush glass packs but not as tinny/rappy if ya know what i mean. No offence fellas but single 3" exhausts are for import tuners. [I get the point on torque ect. and the old school thing] but i prefer dual exhausts on everything [except my cummins].

Thanks guys really appreciate all of the input. I think I'm just going to go with single for now. I'll keep you guys up to date with what I end up getting. I'm going to swing buy the local mom and pop exhaust shop tommarow.

I put TTI's 2.5 in kit on my Dart. And love it. Not cheep but fit pretty darn good. I used Summit's Rip off Flowmasters. Sounds great.
