I like the way you defy logic and laugh at it LOL... Your building a drag motor but you don't want heads capable of higher RPM......
define "drag motor". After you define that, I'll tell you if that's what I'm building.

Agreed, your building a motor home motor...:D...
yep. now, if you have any experience  with the heads I've listed, or have a preference, feel free to share. Never mind the truck, or engine.

just checked. E-streets are available to ship today, and they offered 100 bucks off. 1344.99 would be the price.
  • no, I didn't pull the trigger today. still gathering info. I have a few projects in front of the 440. But I have been gathering a few pieces here and there. So there is no emergency for me to pull the trigger today. I have time.

Have you chosen what exhaust as far as manifolds headers or what ever…?? Curious here. As far as plug angle the stealths keep coming up as my personal solution. Having some “ re-worked” tubes on my set up was matched to a straight plug. Not sure if this may be on your list of considerations. Hope all works out for your plan….Swingn’

Thanks Rob, I just found this thread, went through a few pages and figure there is enough blah-blah-blah without me adding to it.
Opinion on the 440 source heads and the work involved to make them a viable option. I remember you did a little work on them.

I bought a couple sets of 440source heads years ago. They flowed slightly less than what Edelbrock heads did from what guys were claiming. They flowed a max of 267cfm on my bench. Quality was nice and valve job was ok for an out of the box head but pretty basic. A rather basic three angle valve job and some quick work cfm max numbers jumped to 300 and I quit and sold them. I hear they fixed the issue but the chamber was cast to big. The fire ring on the 1009 and 1039 was in the chamber and couldn’t be used. There offered a white head gasket for awhile that I guess addressed this but many guys used the marine head gasket. Of memory it was a Felpro 11059 or something like that. Just to add back then even Edelbrock said not to use the 1009 gasket for the same reason.

I like you but you need some sex (or something). Get out and try some fresh air.
Oh WOW the o-mighty Pittsburgh racer likes me...lol .. enough to give me advice even LOL...
Let me return the favor.. don't go to Walmart shopping for girlfriends LOL...

mopartsracing - Sidewinder Cylinder Heads For Big Block Mopar

I had a wonderful experience with Todd Marsh. $895.00 he also offers porting by retired Nascar porter. Tell him what cam you want to use and he gives you a discount on Isky springs. Comp's 275/285hl will get you where you want to be or 282s sft. Heads will be ready to bolt on.
Hey, thanks for the link! I'll be checking into these as well. Seems to be the offshore casting that they all get, and it's all in the quality of the valves, springs, valve job.

How is it no one's allowed to ask what the heads are for or what they're going to be used for? How is one to make a decision without knowing that. Is this going to be a pleasure boat or a drag boat or a fishing boat?.. a boat just for catching fish with your family or one that you need to race from spot to spot for competition?... I wonder if it could be going back into a motorhome to take the family across the Appalachian mountains? LOL...
My vote without hesitation was to do the work yourself on your own heads that you already have...

You vote 452's. Thanks, they are being considered. I can do most of the work myself except the actual valve job.

Headers. Usually, truck headers play much more nicely with spark plug than headers for A or B bodies. I'm hoping regardless of the angle, I'll be ok, but the factory location would be great.

LOL.. you make this difficult. All the heads listed are to be considered "same use". They are all competitors. None are fully CNC ported. Yes, the truck does make the difference on how the header pipes are shaped for spark plug angle. But not for the Quality or Performance of the heads - if one has an edge over the other.

Thinkin with a 440 instead of a 400 more HP should be easily achievable.

They fixed the chamber issue because 1009 gasket fit perfectly.

Like I tell my customers if it was easy everybody would have one...
I feel like I'm in the book of three little bears... These heads flow too much, these heads don't flow enough, but these heads are ju----st right....
Admittedly off subject is told not to be LOL but I'm still completely trying to wrap my head around they had that flows from 3500 to 7500... They stall converter that probably is at least 3500... And how you're the only one on earth or at least on this form who isn't questioned about their combination of the vehicle that it's going into. Gears, cam, weight, expectations... 450 to 500 horsepower to do what? Torque???? ...

Like Pittsburgh said you don't have to have a stroker or anything special to make 450 horsepower or is he put it to go 10 seconds.. I'm sure with Factory everything and a crazy enough cam you can get 450 horsepower..

Because I didn't ask how to "build" a 450 HP 440, nor did I ask "how to make my truck run XX.XX ET with a 440, my question was straight forward. "These 3 head competitors, which is the best for the money. Quality, Performance for the $$."
