Early-A Original-Style Trunk Mat (High-Quality) Sources?

Hello. Piggybacking off of this recently-resurrected thread, do any of the several thousand of you who have bought replacement trunk mats have any recommendations for a good-quality, original-appearing mat for a '64 Dart?

I have a very original 38,000 mile car with a very intact, slightly worn, original mat, which I would prefer not to destroy with normal wear and tear.
I would like to find a replacement with:
  • The original plaid pattern and color
  • Generally original appearance
  • Better durability (better, more modern material, thicker), so that I can throw stuff in there without worrying.
Since I have a serviceable original mat to use as a template, I would be happy to buy the material as a big square and cut it to shape myself.

I have heard of modern replacements being too small, being cut in ways that almost line up, or being too thin – Does anyone have recommendations for a mat that's actually great?
One would think that with 21st Century materials there should be one.

Good thought. They have an excellent reputation.

Unfortunately, they do not list any trunk mats.
Not for Dart from '64 yo to '76, not for Polara, not for C-Bodies.

Maybe Dave and Rick couldn't find anything good enough out there.
I wonder whether Rick@Laysons could help?

I bought a nice one for my 66 Dart but that was 20 years ago. I can't remember where I bought it.
 
You mean the mat that goes between the top of the tank and body? The mat that no one ever sees and wouldn't know the difference if it was original style or not or even missing? That mat? Man, just get a piece of roll roofing underlay and cut a section. I bet any roofing company would give you a piece that small.
 
I have been using a matt from a 66 dart for my 66 Plymouth, could not find anyone with the Valiant mat so I dropped it in and trimmed some off in areas.. yep, I think I will be finding some in door out door gold rubber back I can take in and out, may have to lay on it sometime who knows

Hey. I like that mat. Even if nobody ever sees it. It's kinda cool in its bare minimalism.

And, yes it's the blueish greenish plaid rubber mat that tears and disintegrates after only half a century.

I've cut carpet for the trunks of many other cars I've had, and may do the same for this one, but I'd like to have one that's just like the original, even if I don't usually use it, so I can put it down in the unlikely event that I actually go to a car show or something (I don't really like sitting around anywhere all day, so I don't really go to car shows).

But, ideally, I'd like a mat made of modern rubber that looks like the old one, but doesn't disintegrate when you drive around throwing your toolbox back and forth across the trunk in the curves.

And, yeah, if anyone has seen a modern "trunk liner" type mat, like I have had in a number of cars, that'd be great too, but I don't hold out much hope there.

The basic dilemma, though, is that the original mat will disintegrate if I leave it in the trunk, and, realistically, it will disintegrate if I try to fold it up and leave it somewhere "safe," because it's just chemically deteriorated over time, so I'd like to have a nice one that's like the original, so I don't feel like I have to keep the original in an airtight case.
Everything else in these cars is pretty durable, but those mats are just crap.

We do offer 63-66 Dart/Dart GT/ and convertible trunk mats....listed in the "TRUNK" chapter of our catalog....in either light duty vinyl or the heavier rubberized versions.

That sounds great! BUT, it doesn't show up on your page.

I've looked here at work, on a WinDOS machine, and at home on my Mac, and the page is blank for the trunk mats, for '64 as well as all the other years and models I mentioned above.

I think your page may be messed up.

But if anyone has bought either of these, I'd be happy to hear what you think and how they've held up.

Sure is now.

I'm thinking of going to Carlisle in July. My best bet is probably to stop by then and actually check the mats out.

I'll order a catalogue, too. There doesn't seem to be a way to do it on the web site. Surprise.

Catalogs will be in our show tent at Carlisle.....absolutely free.....no cost and no postage... :thumbsup:

I agree that our website has "issues". But I'm not an IT guy, so I have to leave that up to somebody else......
 
I have long said, unless you have a B or E-Body you need to CALL these vendors and ask about products. It is even worse if you are trying to work on a C-Body.

Hey, we can't all do everything. Rumour has it that you're doing a pretty good job at what you do, so nothing wrong there.

But in 2025, they need to hire a good web person to straighten that out. Hell, if they've got a bright high school kid on a summer job s/he could probably redo the whole thing on SquareSpace.

Agreed. A decent website would pay dividends for a business that has a good reputation.
