Hi, what does everybody do with installing a340 in a early a body with the exhaust? The early A 273 manifolds have openings that are too small for the ports on the heads. Any easy solutions?
Put 340 manifolds on it. They fit with no power steering. Might can make um fit with, I don't know.Hi, what does everybody do with installing a340 in a early a body with the exhaust? The early A 273 manifolds have openings that are too small for the ports on the heads. Any easy solutions?
If it was my car, the power steering would be in the ditch. A bodies are so light, only a girl needs power steering. I'd much rather have 340 manifolds.I thought that they would not fit with power steering, but was not sure.
I understand.I'm trying to get away with not buying more parts. lol
Port your 273 manifolds, I have used Muriatic acid .
I didn't know Muratic acid would eat cast iron. LOLWhat's this sorcery you speak of?
I didn't know Muratic acid would eat cast iron. LOL
I'd have to see it to believe it. It would clean cast but not eat it and yes there would be no control. Extrude hone is the only controlled way except for a die grinder. ANd with a grinder it's tough to check the thickness way up inside the port.you messin' with me? Pickin' on the slow guy? lol...
I mean.. it's acid so.... should corrode the hell out of it. I'm interested in how it's controlled etc. Seems like a really good idea for "smoothing" things out, like that abrasive goo porting, "sort of"...

Interesting forum. Man those guys are all over the place. Causes rust, removes rust, don't use vinegar LOL I think I'll stay away from the stuff and trade my 273/318 manifolds for the 340's I have setting on the shelf. LOL

I started with a scrap piece of cast iron as a test, examined the results and noted time(s). Put in manifolds let it sit for a few hours judging by test sample results. Washed with baking soda water. The acid was only put into the deepest areas of the manifold where a grinder could not reach. Be mindful of the time allowed to sit! My thought process was to smooth out the roughness rather than take loads of material.
Well, if in fact you could rip a phone book in half, then you probably could just scratch out the insides of the manifold with your fingernails! Is that a GT40 intake on the bottom?Extrude hone before and after and the process.

I think the problem lies in the fit, where the 340 heads have bigger ports than the 273 manifolds and exhaust was leaking by. Are there any gaskets that can solve this problem?Port your 273 manifolds, I have used Muriatic acid to get deep inside areas and some grinder work no real cost as apposed to hunting down 340 manifold $$$ for minimal gains. I understand wanting PS who wants to drive dump truck thru a parking lot, I can rip a phone book in half (well almost).
