Wow, wow. Is that ever a great looking car. And, as mentioned before, I would imagine that 408 will overcome those lil radials pretty easily!

Here is my 1964 Valiant supercharged.045 over slant six. It was automatic but swapped for early a833. Swapped 8.25 for 7.25 as well.

It will be getting electric fuel pump next. Mechanical can’t keep up with boost. It is a kick in the pants when boost hits.

1966 Formula S, 4 speed O/D, 273 Commando Isky E-4 cam, 3.91 Track Lok in an 8 3/4, Bilstein shocks, Accurate straight thru single Commando exhaust. Interior is still a work in progress with custom leather seats from 1980.

This poor little car spent more time in the field than on the road. But, it helped a bunch of people with the many good parts it had to give. Too bad it was so far gone underneath, it was a cool car in it’s day!

65 Barracuda owned since August 1968. Was Commando 273 4-speed, now 340 4-speed (since March of 1973). Later trans (got rid of the Ball and Trunnion U-Joint), but with original gearset with 3.09 low gear. Drove it to the Mopar Nats from Atlanta in 1985 while it was still white, and again in 1988 after its first red paint job. Tach is J.C. Whitney from early seventies (still works great), speedo is from my Mom's 71 Duster 340 that my brother totalled. Have correct loop pile carpet for it, just haven't put it in yet.

What is a ball and trunnion A body transmission worth? I have a 65 Valiant convertible and I haven't decided if I'll use the 4 speed or a 904. The trans is good, has the rods, levers and 2 shifter assemblies. I've sold traditional slip yoke 833s but wasn't sure if the older versions were worth more or less. Thanks.

the ball and trunion trans has a 3.09 first gear. Not sure what the early slip yoke 833s had.

'66 A-body had the slip yoke and 3.09 first. 3.09 first also had 904 sized output shaft.

Is 66 the only year with the 904 sized output shaft? Later ones had the 727 sized shaft?

Also, was 66 the last year of the 3.09 low gear until it reappeared in the seventies in some E body trannies, and of course the O/D 4-speeds?

I've always liked the 3.09 low gear with 3.23 gears. Overall low gear ratio with that setup is 9.98. Quick off the line, but with those 3.23 gears could cruise at interstate speeds. When I ruined the mainshaft of my original trans, I put a 69 trans in it which had a 2.66 low gear. All of a sudden, my 340 was a dog off the line. Just amazing that it made that much difference. After a couple years of that, I found out my original 3.09 gearset, which I luckily had saved, would fit in my 69 trans, so in they went.

Edit: A 3.09 low gear with 3.23 rear gears give you almost exactly the same overall low gear ratio as a 2.66 low gear and 3.73 rear gears.
