just found that my free edelbrock 1406 has a nasty throttle shaft vacuum leak so its time to get a new carb. what do you all think i should go with a 650 or 750?

my set up

69 valiant about 3100 pounds street maybe a few passes at the strip and an auto-x day or two
340
crane hydraulic roller #699611
1400-5400 rpm
@.050 adv lift lsa
int 214 276 .488 112
exh 222 284 .509

J heads with 2.02 int and 1.6 exh no porting
will switch them for mildly ported aluminum heads when i can

rpm air gap

tti step headers

2.5 inch exhaust dumped at the axle

904 with hughes 2500 rpm converter

8 3/4 with open 3.23's

id also consider a holley if any one thinks there is one that would just be perfect for my set up

go with the 750 ,you wont need to replace it again when you add the better heads ,also were you looking at one with a avs its never to big .

holley 750 double pumper

i was actually thinking about a dp but id rather not

go with the 750 ,you wont need to replace it again when you add the better heads ,also were you looking at one with a avs its never to big .
i was looking at both the performer and avs but i couldnt figure out the diffrence between them. other then a performer is a afb and a avs is well an avs with a electric choke

If you go with an Eddy carb, I'd choose the 650. The eddy 750's are junk

Personally I'd use a 650 Holley DP.

ok how bout why.

More tunable and much better throttle response than an edelbrock. All I run is Holleys. Tried to work with edelbrock, but changing metering rods and springs to tune got old, only to still have a slight hesitation. Got holley 650, 3 750s, and an 850. I have a 650 on one of my 340s and a 750 on the other. 650 DP works great on my mild 340. Id go 750 to give you room for future build up. JMO, Im sure you will get many.

750, either edelbrock or Holley. Better to go bigger, it will only use what fuel it needs (after it's tuned) even though it can provide more. I have run a dp that came with my car until I swapped engines, then went with eddy. Both provide about the same results.

Check with snap-on to see if they still have a bushing kit for the throttle shaft, if you want to keep the carb.

Considering HE SAID...
eddy 650 or 750

The 750 is a AFB that has a counter weighted air door. The problem is normally that the air door gets slammed open and there is not enough of a pump shot to cover it. You end up with a bog.

The 650 is an AVS that has a spring tension air door that can be tuned to open later or sooner depending on the engine needs. The problem, they only come in a 650, a good size for your combo, but small for future upgrades or an 800, which is too big.

IF this choice was put to me, it would be the 650 AVS and a K&N extreme lid that will help it flow more than the rating. A K&N stub stack maybe possible to use for more cfm.
You could rack up a few more cfm in this manor. Steve D. of Mopar Muscle did a test. I can not seem to find it now, but, the addition of the extreme lid and K&N stub Stack was a nice improvement. Here is some reading below.

Spacer test, your results may very well vary... a lot!

I have always been a fan of a holley carb, but my Dart has a 750 Eddy and it works REALLY good for my application.

and it works REALLY good for my application.

And that is the key to it all isn't it. If you end up happy with it's performance, who really cares what it says on the carbs ID badge.
