Exactly my findings. I'm not a head porting wizard by any means, but at the time I bought these (knowing nothing about them beyond "Mopars" BS 300+ CFM claims in the catalog, I was working for SRE (Parent company to Trickflow and Total Engine Airflow) The kicker on Mopars flow rating (forget how I discovered this...maybe even called the tech line?) The Heads were flowed on a 4.125 bore. NOT the common 4.030 everyone would use. Mopar contracted crane to make the rockers, and crane went out of business....so no rockers. The intake valve position (paired with the fact mine were actually 2.100 (NOT 2.080, despite the paperwork they cam with) Shrouds the intake valve on a 4.030 bore. Before I knew it, I was $2000 deeper in port work, and customer rockers, than I ever accounted for. That was all AT EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT Now do I hate these? ehhh.... not really....they got me 600+ HP. But... I could have probably started with regular edelbrocks, got them ported, ran a much more affordable valve train, and been ahead. I would NOT consider these again unless they are selling those rocker arms on MEGA clearance also, AND they 100% guaranteed they would fit. If you're chasing big numbers with an LA block...i think you'd eat up the $600 difference in these and trickflows pretty easy if the rockers weren't damn near Free. hope that helps someone. not a terrible head, but have your ducks in a row, and double check the rocker situation....and take your bore into consideration.
I don’t put a lot of stock in valve shrouding from what I’ve witnessed. My Edelbrock heads with the moved pushrod hit 332cfm on a the 4.015 bore size with a 2.08 valve. My other set without the pushrod moved hit 318. My 360-1 heads were tested on the same bore size even though they went on my 4.100 R3 block.
Since we're not too far apart, I'll keep you in mind if i ever have these off. Be neat to see how different they are, or aren't compared to the indybrocks, and the few other heads people compare them to.
