Elon just bought GM?????

I tried. It is very broken information. I got that he was going to buy shut down plants but not that he had successfully acquired the corporation.

Last that I heard was that GM turned his offer down. Also heard that 2023 is the last year for the gasoline Silverado. Ford and Dodge will be the only ones making real trucks

I did read that by 2035 GM will be EV only. 2022 is the last year for the diesel Colorado, next year it's only power plant will be a 2.7 4 banger. I don't know how folks are going to be able to pull their boats, horse trailers with only electric powered vehicles, cause they will stop and charge their EV's every few hours. I can see how electric cars may be good for going back and forth to work and to run errands, but not for pulling or hauling. Where's all this electricity going to come from? California already had to put a ban on the charging electric vehicle's because the power grid's can't keep up.

You're preaching to the choir here brother. We are car guys and we understand technology. The non car/non technical people are the ones making the decisions. We are working towards electric but the infrastructure isn't there to support it. Heck we might be chasing hydrogen or fusion very soon and electric will be a bad idea like steam cars 100+ years ago. I'm not buying into electric and I'm not getting my underwear tied in a knot over it.

They won't. It's already been shown that it's not effective in pickups, range is decreased so much, that it's not practical.

I hope that's true, but I did talk to somebody that works for gm and they said that the Silverado would be a ev only in 2024

Kind of surprising, considering they sell over half a million times sucks a year, and GMC sells a quarter million each year. Combined that's more than Ford. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see how they fare with that decision.

Didn't you hear about the recent "fusion" breakthrough? They powered a 60 watt bulb for 3 minutes with it!
THAT is the answer! It ought to be ready for widespread applications in about 30 years!
I can't wait!

I heard about the Silverado going all electric from a gm employee, you would think that they would know what they are talking about

I hope they choke on those EVs. Don't get me wrong, I see the handwriting on the wall. I know it is inevitable, but we do NOT have the technology for it yet. In fact, it could be a long time until an EV can logically take the place of a main family car, work truck, vacation vehicle, etc. Plus, the batteries require toxic waste procedures and cost a fortune to replace. When these problems are solved, the EV's can sell for about the same as the comparable gas-powered cars, and the power grids can support it, then I might be on board.

Kind of odd they GM is coming out with all new Colorado with gas turbo 4 cyl but full size trucks going all electric in '24? And range on EV extremely limited when pulling heavy trailers? Guess we'll see what happens. Dodge wants to kill the Hemi and go EV so there is that too....

stopping the production of the hemi is stupid. 2023 is the last year for the challenger and charger both. I've seen the commercials for the electric Silverado, bummer

What about the Airline industry and the Military? Not to mention the complete Trucking industry. How they going to power that ?

EV technology will follow the same path as nuclear.

1) Initial enthusiasm.
2) Predictions how the technology will revolutionize society.
3) Construction of multiple facilities.
4) Problems with the facilities arise.
5) Problems with disposal of waste arise.
6) "Activists" start attacking the technology.
7) Costs balloon until the economics are no longer there.
8) The industry dies on the vine.

Just wait, we are #2 in the list with EV's.
