It does look like Maine is trying to be the brown shirt party. I would never dream of living in a state like that but I also doubt any of those people from out of state have fought those laws up to the supreme court. If I was from out of state and my RV was camped or needed repairs for 30 days and they tried to slap a $20,000 tax bill on it, I would be gone with the RV and they would never see the money. If they seized the property you bet it would be fought all the way to the supreme court. I can guarantee you I could take a trip to a college campus in Maine and see tons of out of state plates. They probably also let those kids vote in Maine no less (along with their home of record). All this because NH has better laws and instead of fixing theirs they use the unaccountable tax collector. Add another state to the list I won't visit let alone live. Technically the Maine law says even if you drive your car in for more then 20 days of vacation you can be charged 5% of the initial purchase price! Nice anti-tourism policy there! The biggest problem is they don't enforce it evenly across the board, they just try and get a few rich yacht or plane owners, so a bad law goes on longer then it should be allowed.

I've long held that if NASCAR would implement a rule that the race cars had to be emissions-legal and the teams were only given a certain amount of gas for a race, and that amount decreased a bit every couple years, that most of the worlds' problems would be solved.

I'm just waiting for the "what-right-do-you-have-to-barbecue-and-pollute-the-air?" argument to come up.......you DO know where this is going, right? Complete and total Earth-worship and controlling the masses.

Then comes the "pay-a-tax-to-exhale-CO-2" and save the planet.
