TTI 2-1/2" Head Pipes.
Car will be street driven only.
Everything is fairly tight in this area; not much wiggle room. I am concerned about overheating the wires on the starter or overheating the starter itself. I can't really use a strapped-on blanket since that would interfere with the "dimple" TTI put in it to clear the torsion bar.
With the clearance shown in the photos, am I just overstressing about this???

I understand your concern for I have the same issue. I wrapped the head pipe and installed sleeve on wires all products from DEI. Thinking there was a better more cleaner method, purchased heat shield from Aircraft Spruce (#08-00050). It's only 2.5 inches long and held in place with hose clamp. They also sell one twice as long but due to bend in pipe I elected to try the shorter one. Now I have not attempted install so do not know what to say from here but good luck.

Be very careful with metal heat shields. Electrical short.

I don't think I can use any kind of shield here because it would have to be exactly where the dimple for the torsion bar is located. I think ill just have to forget ahead and take my chances.

Dude.
Nice find.

Manifolds or headers? Our 67 cuda 340 with hipo manifolds and mini starter, zero issues
Hipo manifolds, but full size starter. The car had headers on it when I bought it, but I don't remember there being any issues with the starter or wires. But the whole thing was pretty much a mess anyway.

:lol:Nope, surely not looking for points. I just want to get this lifelong project finished and maybe drive it before my kids take my driver's license away.

Hello Charlie,
I have some heat wrap I will give you to try if you want.
It's a basic Velcro seal, good for approx. 1" closed, just use zip ties (metal if you can find them).
I have a whole roll...PM me how much you want, and your address, and I'll throw it in the mail to you!

There's also two lengths of the original style starter. RRR and others may be able to fill inthe details.

What you show will probably be OK as long as there is NO STRAIN, GOOD SUPPORT, and a GOOD CRIMP.

I don't like or trust those closed barrel terminals. This one may let go. Yellow insulator is often used for terminals sized for 10 and 12 AWG conductors. If the brown wire to the solenoid is 14 gage it will likely work free over time.

I would also further protect the crimp by sealing the wire insulation to the terminal with some heat shrink. Look through the catalog for a heat shrink that can withstand engine temperatures.

The OEM routing and support should keep the wires at least an inch or two from the exhaust. Extra protection won't hurt. The factory did so too.
