I just put in a 360/904 combo and used the Lokar kickdown cable.

I have noticed that the car seems to shift real early from first gear. Second seems fine. How could I get it to shift at a later RPM??

Thanks!

That easy huh?? I just tightend the screw when the cable was tight. I'll have to give it another 1/4". Thanks Pettybluedart!

how do you adjust the stock kickdown? i dont wanna hijack the thread but curious mine will get all the way to 3rd in the intersection from a stop and wont kick down till you come to a complete stop

Not sure Tyler, maybe adjustable rods?Myasylum is using the Lokar cable setup.

I,m reading in a manual, says theres an adjustment screw on the drivers side of tranny for adjusting the kickdown. It says to back off 2 turns.Hope this helps.

take allen wrench with you...drive...adjust and then drive...

it will take some fine tuning to get it right

.......Depending on the year..........u can adjust up at the carb, with the engine off, throttle wide open, adjust kd rod 2 take up the slack.....u may need 2 very the setting some 2 get the shifts timed rite.........some u have 2 adj under the car rite at the kd lever....................kim..........cables r crap.....

Yea, something is screwy yet in my car as well (one of many things)
I set up the Lokar that it shifts where I want it to in first gear, but that also raised the RPMS for shifting into 3rd. So now it don't shift into 3rd at all, that's basically because I have a fresh engine I haven't pushed it to hard either. It probably would shift at about 65mph.

There has to be a way to balance this.

could it be that you have the kickdown cable arm in the wrong position on the carb? because your problem with adjustments almost sounds like a difference in the "throw" of the kickdown lever at carb versus the kickdown lever at trans. Check to make sure that when you are at WOT on the carb, you are pulling the kickdown lever at trans all the way. then check to make sure that at idle the kickdown is all the way in the other direction on the trans. you might need a friend to work the throttle up top while you check underneath at the trans. Basically you want to make sure that you are getting equal range of movement at the carb and at trans.
