Hi guys, I need some help...

Recently I ordered some SS springs from Jegs for my 74 Dart Sport. I have 225/75/15 tires on the car, and with the SS springs the rear was still too low. I added shackles from the local auto parts store, still too low. I returned the springs and ordered some springs from JR Spring Company. I told the gentleman I spoke to what size tires I had and he gave me a part number of 78-705 i believe. I ordered 2 of these and put them on without the shackles, too low. Added the shackles, still too low.
I haven't weighed the car yet, but I do have a speaker box and spare in the trunk. From what I have read the SS springs should have been high enough. This is strictly a street car, and is my daily driver. What I would like is to have is the rear slightly higher than the front. I will call John R Spring tomorrow and see if they have any suggestions. I will also post pics in the morning. Any of you guys have any ideas?

Thanks,
Russell

Your tire is 28" tall. Stock was about 26".

I think you are getting SS knock offs. You can get real SS springs at a dodge dealer.

With a 28" tall tire the rear should be higher than the front with just about any decent spring............

So my question is, how high is the front and what tire size are you running up front?

SS springs, for many are not the best choice for a street car.

XHD springs are offered in stock, +1" over, +2" over. That would be an option.

I agree with 68formulas340 above. That you have bought SS knockoffs. I've had the real ones on my car for at least 10 years, and had no problem fitting a fat tire in there. I even had my front end raised to reduce the "rake" of the car.

Try front hangers instead of shackles. Get the hangers with multiple bolt holes and hang the springs from the bottom hole.

Real SS Springs should have give you the clearance. I have SS on my 74 Duster and am runnig 275/60/15 rear tires. I do have air shocks just to give myself the relief clearance from a bad bump. Over all.... pretty happy with the set up.

I spoke with Rick at JR Spring and he rolled me a set of +2" springs and sent them out to me. I put them on yesterday and without the aftermarket shackles the rear is still about 1/2" lower than the front. The front wheel well lip is about 28 1/2" from the ground and the rear is 28". I am really pleased with the support at JR Spring, they sent me out the higher springs and it only cost me about 30 dollars shipping.

What else can i do to raise the rear an inch or two? I'd rather not have to put air shocks on the rear, I've read too many posts stating that they are a bad idea. Would a front hanger with the eye hole down a couple of inches from where it is stock work? I can make those myself if so. I know I can get real SS springs, but since I already have these springs I'd rather spend that money on fixing other parts of the car that need attention. Any other ideas?
