This might be considered a touchy subject for some, depending on how you view it, but my favorite FTA(free to air) satellite website shutdown. Im looking to get up n going again. Any suggestions?? I have an Nfusion Phoenix. Pm me if yer too shy! LOL

Thanks
Steve

I wish to hell I knew. This is just about too complicated for my 64 year old brain!!!

used to use them..........

there is unencoded tv signals coming off certain satellites that can be watch if your dish is pointed at it with a FTA ....

there used to be alot more to watch...

70aar, is it your opinion that this is becoming closed down? Do you think it's worth screwin' with?

I will PROBABLY never be rich enough, nor willing to pay for much more than I am. I get a combo of reduces rates (veteran or senior or both) cable internet at reduced bandwidth, and basic TV (23 channels, most of which are ess ech eye tee) and I get a few off the air through a digi converter.

Ironically, just the other day I tore apart my MUCH worn and damaged 10 foot mesh dish and hauled it to the recycler.

let's just say..that you could watch dish tv with a FTA years ago...but it is much more complicated now...

I have not been involved with the FTA receivers now for a few years now...so I am not truly up with the latest technology

The maker of my "grey" box was Nfusion and it worked amazing. 1st time I dabbled in it, and it cost me less than $200, and everything....I mean everything was free...it all depended on how many dishes were setup. A co-worker of mine from a couple years ago laughed that his house looked like a pizza farm cuz he had so many dishes set-up(dishes looked like pizza pans). Had to keep up to the codes, maybe once a month hook the box to the laptop and download the files(maybe 1/2 hour tops). I had 2 dishes up and could get a total of 3 satellites, with probably 300-400 channels...PPV NHL network, NFL network, MLB and yes of course all the "adult training" channels LOL. The forum I was on had prolly 10,000 members, but something happened and there was next to nothing available for Nfusion and other box owners.

Shhhh I think I've said too much already!!! LOL Any info would be appreciated

yeah..i think my neighbours thought i worked for nasa or something...lol..but now only one Direct hd dish....lol

Yep got BEV or in proper lingo B3V...LOL and 2 DN's! Worked great, there is talk about IKS and "donations" to get the IKS keys....Im checking out lyngsat.com right now to see what is available. How many channels you get with the one that is still working??

back in the old days...there were BIN or small programs written by the receiver manufactures or someone working for them...that allowed the receivers to watch dish tv ...

dish had to swap out all their access cards and update their receivers to stop this from continuing ...now there is the IKS out there were many people share the same keys for the receiver over the internet...that is all i know...i swear....lol

Ok, now I get the idea.

DAMN YOU PISHTA!!! LMAO You have "re" inspired my interest. Since I've dumped cable TV for some time, and even that was "basic," I've been re-re-re-re-re-re - thinking this the last few days.

What are some good receivers? Some googling came up with this...........

Seems to be up to date and fairly well regarded...........?

Last dish I had was a "B.U.D." (Big Ugly Dish) that I only got two channels "at some times." One, when it was unlocked, was mythbusters, LOL

Hey Del mine is a Nfusion. I haven't tried it for a while. I would imagine there are upgrades i need to download. Let us know how this one works for you!

Man that stuff drove me nuts back in the Legal in Canada days , living in Windsor and still married to my ex in Michigan we we're driving those stupid things across twice a month or throwing the hardware in the trash and keeping the "Football" cards , stupid crap would get hit minutes before anything really good would hit the air leaving you scrambling to reprogram , I even had the gen1 cards with the "bootstrap" for backup , I only wish I would have opened a store and got in at the beginning eh LOl , my cabinetry partner's kid was still in high school with the kid who did that and was driving a Ferrari his senior year from it . For most of us tho it was a break even at best , you had to warranty the programming so by the time you got everyone up and running again you got hit again and round and round you went .I was glad when they finally dropped the legal hammer and I could tell everyone to piss off I was done .

You are talking about something "completely different"

I'm talking about completely legal which is called "free to air" and requires no cards, no programming, no worries about legal beagles.

FTA is no different than receiving a TV broadcast station. You buy an appropriate receiver and you set it up.

I have no interest in any form of "hacking," secret programming cards or anything else. These are not scrambled. By the way, it never was "legal" to 'unscramble' a protected program. It might be that there was no jurisdiction because it was out of FCC's "border"

Actually it was completely legal to intercept and descramble any signal broadcast through the Canadian airwaves which were owned by the Canadian people as long as it wasn't a matter of Canadian national security , this fact was challenged and upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada numerous times and it took a piece of new legislation enacted into law to make it illegal here , even then the law states that it is unlawful do descramble a an encrypted signal which is why the FTA is still going but sharing receiver codes is not the same as receiving a signal that doesn't require an access code to get either eh !

OK, you still don't get it. At least it does not sound like you do

FTA is NOT encrypted. There is no coding or scrambling. These are completely open, "in the clear" as it were transmissions. There are no magic little cards, programming, or anything of that nature. The only difference between receiving these FTA signals and a TV broadcast is the frequencies they are broadcast on, the method of transmission, and the fact that this is from a satellite instead of from a ground station.
