Hello,

I'm trying to get a list of parts/budget, besides gaskets, I will need to upgrade to a set of Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads. Will I need the Harland sharp Edelbrock specific roller rockers? Does the geometry of the heads change that much to need new push rods? If I change to a more aggressive cam (Edelbrock 7177) will I also need to change push rods? How much of my current setup can I maintain?

My current set up:

Engine: Small block 360
Heads: Cast iron (I think the "basic" ones)
Roller Rockers: Harland Sharp 1.5:1 (S70025K)
Cam: Edelbrock Performer-Plus (2177)
Intake: Edelbrock Performer RPM (7176)

Thanks

Do you know a good machine shop? A good 360 from the 70's will make 1hp/cube. Is that enough for an A body? 12's for minimal effort.

Yeah, there is one local to me that rebuilt the engine originally. I was going to take the heads to them so they can give them a once over before installing.

When I had it originally rebuilt I asked for a compression ratio of around 9:1, because I was hesitant about going high compression. The previous owner had done some sketchy work and the engine detonated a few weeks after I purchased it.

I'm mainly doing this to make a list of potential upgrades and how much they would cost. Sometimes I get the itch for nice heads after seeing pics posted on here.

Head upgrades?

Like parts? Swith to 11/32 guides, 1.94/1.60 valves, hard seats.. bowl blended.

Or new heads?

Promax, afr.

The rockers stand in the Edelbrock heads will accept standard stock shafts and arms. Specifically, geometry changes per rocker shaft system used. All rockers are slightly different from each other and will have different geometry & probably pushrod length which can change with rocker, camshaft and lifter used.

@B3RE can help you out here very well. But only when you’re ready. He has custom kits to adjust what ever rocker set up you use to also work with the cam you choose.

Each time you make a change, camshaft valve lift, lifter, rocker arms, valve length/installed height, pushrods length must be checked.

Parts list;

After you have your cylinder heads and gaskets, you’ll need to choose rocker arms and then contact Mike, B3RE for a rocker arm geometry kit. Mike will walk you through the instructions you can find at his site if needed. Next is measure up pushrod length and order them up.

This is true.

How have you personally found the machining and quality of the Edelbrock head vs the chink head.
I have one of the best head porters in the country about 40 miles from me. He says most all of the chinkese castings are excellent as far as the casting itself. It's the details they fall short on.

Yeah, I'm just not sure I buy that anymore. Especially since the company's changed hands at least twice since any Edelbrocks owned it. I'd love to see some hard evidence though.
And even when I tour the facility and watch recent YouTubers I have personally met, no written word or video can change your mind or any fact I speak will be believed. You have shown this for years and yet you continue to cast doubt and slander Edelbrock.

You are amazing.

As you were.

You need to find out what pistons you have have now. Because the edelbrocks have a smaller chamber and can significantly in crease compression

Otherwise all you need is gaskets. Regular fel pro’s will do. But the calculated compression may change what you want/need.

Your nice rockers can be r. And will also work with the 7177 cam.

Previous/existing cam, 2177, is about a stock 340 cam. 7177 would be nice upgrade. And should make 1hp/cu with those heads.

I'm not arguing about it, just giving my opinion. Some of their valve covers and a lot of other aluminum items are indeed made overseas now. Feel free to disagree with my opinion all you want. You always have. I got no problem with that. Until I see proof, I have my doubts and they are mine to have.

lol, I suppose a tour of the facility will only do then.

Example. If you buy Speedmaster heads bare, they have a two angled valve job on the intake. If you buy the heads loaded, they have a three angle valve job. You can just barely see the little 30 top cut.
Regardless of how you buy them, they all have a ledge around the seats and need chamber deshrouding. The guides usually need a little reaming too.

And the Edelbrock head???
