Many of you may or may not know that ACE is carrying Craftsman tools. Took two bad rachets in to them and the gladly exchanged them. Note, you have to be a an ACE Rewards member.

Took them to Sears the other day and all they wanted to do is repair them.
 
I'm going to be all over that like a duck on a june bug having three broken 3/8 ratchets and one broken 1/2 drive.

Thanks for the heads up, now we'll see if they do it where I live.

Last time I took one to sears they handed me a repair kit, but the repair kit does not address the messed up teeth in the head.
I complained about exactly that at Sears and they just said it was a new policy to only give a repair kit. (not even to fix it for you any more)
I could put a repair kit in 3 of them before they could do one anyway, but not replacing as their "Lifetime Warrantee" says they will pissed me off.

I have not been offered the repair kit at mine. I always go and pick out the new matching ratchets, screwdrivers, or what ever it is I need, and bring them up to the counter along with my broken ones. They do the paperwork and I leave with the new tools.

I'd rather have a repaired old craftsman ratchet than an oversees new one. Seems like all the craftsman hand tools are made overseas.

Here's the skinny on Sears: :pottytra:

If you bring them a broken ratchet, then they will try to repair it for you or give you another one that was previously returned and they rebuilt it. :violent1:

You have the right to ask for a new one. :protest:

They don't volunteer this information freely. It's part of cost cutting to try to give you a rebuilt one, when in fact the warranty states that you can get a brand new replacement if it fails. "Corporate America" in action again.... :finga:


However good for Ace for taking care of you without any hassle. :thumblef:
 
what is wrong with a rebuilt one ...wouldn't it still work??

i have a broken 1/2" ratchet but I would be happy if they repaired my existing one because I have my name scrapped into the side of it and I have had it a long time. I am kinda attached to it
 
the small town of Miller, Mo pop 534 down the road has a privetly owned Ace Hardware. funny how I bough lots of supplies there, never neard of a "rewards" program. Ace carries "Ospho" which h I use treating surface rust. miller never carried it till I asked and they got it in. same price as other Aces, $9.99 a qt. then they raise the price to $10. 29, then other day it went up to $10.99. but funny when I check price at other Aces they are always at $9.99.. I realize not many $$ involved, its the principal. 10% increase.

they clam Ace sets their price??? I have to question this. any body really know.?? I can see bringing back a bad Sears rachet! to Miller Hardware! ha and many decades back Sears would hand me a "repair kit", that's when I quit Sears!!!!!! ha

other lower priced too co. that are better and costs NO more. bought one of their buffers decades back. it would only accept their "pad", where I lived then , the trip to Sears was 100 mi round trip. screw Sears.

new ace hardware told me , warranties had to be taken to the main stores, back when it first opened,
 
Well guys you only know if they'll make the exchange if you try it.

The ratchets have evolved over the years. They keep making them cheaper and less durable. If you trade in an old one, you only get the "new and unimproved" one...

Cheap, cheap, cheap.... :violent1: (And I ain't doing a bird call...)
 
funny how none of my "how many decades" old ratchets are still good, no high end Mac or Snap-on for sure,..... only ones that I ever broke were the Sears stuff! ha
 
Yup, sears has become pretty stingy with support. Just walking into the place makes you feel like you stole something. Thanks!
 
A short while back I brought my fine tooth flex head ratchet in for exchange. The local Sears didn't have parts to rebuild nor did they have new. They were more than happy to offer me a course tooth of china vintage. Told them NFW!
I had to order fine tooth and wait two weeks for the correct replacement to show up!
 
I got pretty po'd at our Sears awhile back and have not been back.

I needed a battery for a Sears drill, and wasn't sure "was this parts" or was it something you buy in the store?

So I called and went through "the menu." Of course first, you have to "press one for English."

Now our store in town is NOT that large. The gardening, appliance, and tools is all within about 100' or less of each other. There is maybe 4? checkstands, maybe 3? in that area.

I called, selected tools, the phone rang several times, no answer AND THE SYSTEM DUMPED ME OFF. Not back to the home menu, OFF THE LINE.

So I call back, press 1, press this, that, the other, select tools, and SAME THING.

So I called back, and selected whatever they call gardening. SAME THING

So I CALLED BACK and selected appliances. SAME DAMN THING

There wasn't one clerk on the whole damn floor could answer the stupid phone?
