I couldn't get any mileage outta mine either, even with a double overdrive, a Thermoquad or a 750VS nor a 600Vs, nor advancing the cam to 100 as Rusty suggests. Nor with 11.3 Scr and aluminum heads. Nor with 60* cruise timing.
But man when it came on the pipe, she was HOT
