GAUGES NOT WORKING PROPER

-
I took it all apart & made sure all was ok. Checked w/ my manual & made sure all wire were going where they are suppose to be. Now what i did with the fuel gauge & maybe i shouldnve lol i took the back off & i was told there is points set up inside. I took some fine sand paper & scuffed them. I put it all back together & let it run & the temp gauge still doesnt move. The fuel gauge doent either. Now before all this the fuel gauge did move about twice the thickness of the needle. Also what i did & remembered what i did on my dads 67 GTX is i took 4 D batteries & taped them together. Then i taped wire to each end & put the pos. on one stud & neg. on the other stud of each gauge. (not the amp gauge) They all moved. The circuit board looks nice. Not sure whats going on.

I've explained what you need to do. You need to TEST the cluster when it is out, where you can get to it. Get/ rig some resistors to test it.

RE-read post 15

The switched "run" IGN1 from the key supplies 12V..to one of the pins on the PC board connector. You need to ID that (I'll have to look it up) and connect 12V there and to a PC board ground point. Then one at a time, hook your test resistors from the gauge sencer connections to ground. The IVR inside the fuel gauge supplies all three--fuel, oil, and temp. With the same resistor applied to each of the 3 sender terminals, one at a time, the gauges should all give the same postion reading AKA "so far" from left, or in middle or towards right, eCT

You may have a bad IVR (in that post I linked to a website) you may have one or more bad gauges, you may have a bad connection at one of the gauge stud nuts, or you may have loose/ corroded pins at the PC board harness connector

You can sit here all summer and throw it around, but if you don't methodically test and repair it, it will still have problems.

I just turned 75. When my 67 Dart was new, I was 19 years old.

Well some of you called it. I took the cluster out lightly sanded the board, wire pegs & the nuts that bolt the gauges fast. Using the D batteries i texted all the gauge wires, gauges & the board. They all seam to be fine. Now i put it all back together. I laid the cluster back in the dash & instead of screwing it fast to the dash i just used a ground wire to ground the cluster to the metal dash. I hooked the battery up turned the key on & the fuel gauge started to smoke. Not sure what happened Looks like i need a fuel gauge
