I'm getting closer to shooting paint on my barracuda. Problem is I'm going to do a metallic Dark Candy Apple Red. I'd just like some advice on a good gun to buy for this. Tips on laying the material down would be great as well. :) Planning on using Summit's cheapo paint, activator, and clear. Any things I should know about that stuff would be great too.

I painted a 66 Fury with that exact paint 2 years ago. Turned out beautiful and the paint is easy to shoot, just follow the directions. If you are looking for a cheap decent paint gun set then look here. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DVR-802343/ It's what I used for that exact car and have painted 3 other cars with the set. Good luck

That's a great color for that car! I just love this color. I'm planning on doing the inside in candy apple with tan seats and such.
I found an Iwata w400 gun for 75 bucks here, I'm thinking about snatching that up.

Buy an Iwata LPH-400 LV, use it and then sell it on eBay and get most of your money back. The Iwata's are really a sweet gun and you don't need a monster air compressor to keep up with them.

The Fury was originally had red flake vinyl interior too. Red on Red you can't beat it.

I can't wait to see your 65 in that color, because I was thinking about painting my wife's 65 Barracuda in that color also. Keep us posted.

I would go for the Iwata. Sounds like a great deal.

Here is another pic of the fury.

Art I have used 4 different color metallics from Summit (I heard it's Sherman Williams paint actually). All colors shot really nice. Even I could do it.

I wish I could have gotten the Iwata. The guy must have sold it already since he hasn't gotten back to me about it. I went ahead and bought an Astro Evo 4014 last night from Amazon. I've heard pretty good things about it so far. For the price of 110, its unbeatable. I'm a week away from trying out the gun and I'm at least 1 month and a half away from getting paint on the Barracuda. Still have some rust repair to do on the back and trunk.
@Art that car looks great with all of its chrome on.

I have shot a Satajet 2000 gun, great gun!Astro is decent for a budget.Badart, good to know what supplier for Summit.I used to mix Napa Martin Senour(Sherwin Williams). That looks like the Napa Crossfire paint for the pricing is similar.

I've used my Astro 4014 for a lot of smaller jobs and it has worked great for primer, base, and clear. You'll be satisfied with it especially if you're just a hobbyist. I used an Iwata LPH400 when painting base/mid/clear on my Barracuda. It's an excellent gun but with a little practice with the Astro it probably would have turned out almost as good.

A lot of the cheap guns spray pretty good the 1st couple times you use them. I use a Sata jet 90 now when I bought it it was top pf the line at a low 450 bucks.

Absolutely. The painter hired usually has a favorite weapon of choice. And a specific paint system and laundry list that painter follows.
