Is this a good combo? Remanufactured 318 long block, stock heads, Holley 600 cfm 6619 carb, edelbrock Sp2P318 intake (small runners), stock 340 cam or similar, Hooker Comp headers. I am not sure if the converter is stock. I have not driven or pulled the tranny from the car yet. I will be running 3.89 gears. It will be street driven. How much power could I expect?

Loose the SP2P intake and use a Performer or LD4B.
Mill the heads for comprsion. (Would be nice,)
280 HP at best.
HI to mid 14's @ 93 - 95 mph as a guess.

What is the difference between the LD4B and the D4B? Just the height? How much should I have them take off of the heads?

Is This Engine Already Built?? If Not Go With A Kb 147 Piston And Find A Set Of 302 Castings Or Switch To A Magnum Style Head. If You Go With Either Head Your Looking At 9.5 To 10:1 Comp Also A Good Cam For That Engine Would Be A Comp 280h Cam. If You Leave The Stock Stroke In It You Should Be Making Around 300 Hp At The Flywheel Maybe More.

The engine is already built. I bought it as a project half finished. The guy I bought it from claims he replaced the long block 5k miles ago. It was one of those remanufatured parts store motors. So I am assuming it is very low compression. He has the stock manifold on it and the headers. I am going to go ahead and pull the motor to check everything out. I have the holley already and want to upgrade the cam, lifters, springs and intake while the engine is out. I am just looking for a good solid combo with the parts that are already rebuilt.

Hey guys new member here seen this and thought I would take a stab at it! Check how far the piston is in the hole I have a couple 318 blocks one is .110 in and the other .059 in and to top it off the one thats .110 in I had decked a number of years ago just to insure a flat mouting suface. Anyway I belive mancini or anyone else that sells head gaskets offers a mopar performance thats .024 to .028 compressed thickness with a 4.060 gasket bore so if you get lucky and you have closed chamber heads you may end up with 9:1 engine. Good luck!!

Thanks for the input and welcome. I will remember to check when I pull the engine. I haven't even looked at the casting numbers on the head yet.

I agree with RFish except the qtr time is way generous - Id say low mid 15s with that cam and intake- assuming its in the Dart and not the Dakota!! LOL!

Mass rebuilder engines are junk when new. If it's got 5K on it, it's almost used up. (no, not joking unfortunately...)

I am not sure about that. My teen with a XE268 cam, stock heads, TRW pistons and Holley 600 carb and headers, with a 3.21 and 25oo stall runs mid 14s. HE is running 3.91s.

Yea, well, it was a thought of possible hi gearing and what actually could be done if you tried hard enuff.

My Duster ran a 15.14 @ 89 mph with a 318/904/3.21 gear on stock tires and bolts with a cam. So..... I thought it could be possible. Not knowing exactly how his car is set up.............

Looking foward to a report.

My buddy had his '70 dart at e-town this past weekend..and with nothing more then a complete '76 "smog" motor 318 bottom end,a comp .477/.480 cam,a pair of 360 1.88/1.60 j-heads milled 60 thousands,a weiand dual-plane intake, carter carb, and a set of dougs headers..he went 13.75 not bad for what it is,and we both feel its got a little more in it..
