Guess what broke...... Centerforce Dual Friction + slicks

-
I've never driven a vehicle with a borg beck style 3 finger but I drive the car a lot and would rather not have a harder pedal. I'm kinda kicking myself for installing the 2 step and the slicks.

See post 49.

IMO, that’s the best 10.95 pressure plate there is. But they are hard to find.

It’s what I run. Mine is adjustable but yours doesn’t need to be.

If you can’t find one of those, see if you can convince Ram or McLeod to do a B&B cover with 2200-2400 pounds of plate load and no more.

Even if they have to remove 3-6 spring from the cover. It won’t hurt a thing.

Getting them to do it is the hard part.

If you have a friction supply house close to you, they will usually do it.

I never have liked a diaphragm pressure plate.

We have a Ram B&B 10.95" 2400# plate: RAM STREET 3 FINGER BORG & BECK PRESSURE PLATE FOR 130 TOOTH FLYWHEELS - Mopar A833 4-Speed Transmission & Component Specialists

my mcloed B&B/ long clutch is at 1400 base, extra clutch is at 1600 base, i used some c/w on the 1400 # clutch. george at mcloed set this up for me long time ago. i ran it in my 340 duster also ran the 300 series disc , organic.eventually went to a soft loc clutch. the B&B/ long is a great clutch . just food for thought

Gears look good, cutting the flywheel on the brake lathe at work. Axles and clutch tamer are ordered. Still narrowing down the clutch.

It's 99% street car, pulled the trans because I plan on changing the clutch. If I ever run the slicks again I'll have a clutch tamer.

Ram recommended this one.

I just installed a McLeod 75209 rated for about 550. I like it. Took out the centerforce dual friction after one of the ceramic pucks came off... and honestly..it was only 450 and you could feel it..

Whether he thinks so or not, it's a factor.... It may have had previous damage, but if so it was hanging on by a thread....
I've always thought of the saying "hanging on by a thread" came from a piece string holding up something. Now I understand the correct meaning with regards to threaded fasteners.

I did a quick search of Your build, so You swapped in an 8.75" that had the perches moved in & LBP, those axles wouldn't happen to be a set of C-body axles shortened re-splined by Moser would they? If so, I'd have warned You not to use them with slicks &/a stick.
Your right! I cut down a w100 8 3/4 for my Dart and the re-splined axles are twisting with 10” slicks Ala 833…

Slapped it back together using the parts I took out years ago (hoarding parts payoff is a good feeling). Going to use the 3.23 center section anyway but it’s nice having a spare.
The axle seals weren’t seated far enough in the housing (bush league mistake)
New axles, reusable gasket, seals from Dr Diff.

RAM built me a custom one, we’ll see how it works. Thanks for all the help.

I believe you will be very happy with that clutch, nice choice! As I am sure you are aware, you will need to re-install your over center spring on your pedal assembly. Expect to have a stiffer pedal than you were used to with your diaphragm PP.

What is the static clamp load on that PP?

Happy motoring!

I am currently in the process of putting it back on, did the washer trick but getting them back out is a pain!

Been there, a challenge for sure. 2400lb and organic disc should be great. Keep us posted.

Got it back together. I’m currently messing with the free play. RAM wants it adjust between the throw out bearing and fingers (not gonna happen), or between the clutch fork and rod adjuster. Currently I have it biting at about an inch off the floor with well over an inch of play in the peddle. Feels odd and I’d like to tighten it up a little but evidently the more free play the better as long as it shifts clean.

I run a 1/2 inch of free play at the pedal. If you don’t rest your foot on the clutch pedal thats all you need.

If I’m drag racing I take it to a 1/4 inch. But for driving around a 1/2 inch at the pedal is plenty.

How do you find the pedal stiffness vs the centerforce?

How do you find the pedal stiffness vs the centerforce?
I’d say it’s very similar stiffness but a way different feel. The centerforce seamed to be stiffer at the beginning and lighter fully engaged. When releasing it was very grabby.
The RAM clutch gets stiffer as you engage it but the pedal feels more consistent and way less grabby (which I’d guess is more because of the organic disc).

My cummins did the same thing with a single disc. I found the issue when I put the Disc on a trans input turned the disc. I tore the center out off of the disc off the springs. Looking at it I could not see damage but the center was no longer connected it spun free. That could be what happened?

I'm guessing everything is fixed and good to go since there's been no more comments since the end of May??
