And if so did they work well. 100 bucks for a pair is not bad especially for a known company.

I don’t want to get springs just yet because I’m still running a 7.25 rear. And eventually when I upgrade to a 8.25 I want to put all new springs and goodies in the back. Right now my car squats pretty hard.

You can still change the springs with the 7 1/4" axle...

Then you would just need the larger u-bolts when you upgrade to the 8 1/4" axle...

The springs don't care which rear end is mounted to them. Replace them now, your future 8 1/4, shock plates and u bolts will fit just fine when you get them. Trying to raise your rear with overload shocks (or air shocks) just puts excessive stress on your upper shock mounts, and can ultimately cause issues there- they're not intended nor designed to bear the weight of the car. They also usually require beating the seam of your fuel tank flat for clearance of their oversize diameter.
Just get the springs- you know you need them anyways.

                  Yup! Tried them before.
Super bouncy, never sat even left to right and did not cure all the issues of 50 year old springs and worn out attaching points.

The shock mounts are not meant to support any weight at all. This is why on a lot of cars that had either the load levelers you've pictured or air shocks often times have the top shock mounts torn out. They aren't made to support weight. New springs are the correct fix.

Thank you guys for all your input. I’ve decided to get the springs first. And some kyb shocks also.

Fix the cause of the problem. I had those on my 65 years ago and a coil grabbed the lip of my gas tank and ripped it out from under my Dart when going over some rough railroad tracks at highway speeds. Good thing it slid down the highway and into the ditch and I kept driving up the hill. It could have been a bad deal.

Kersplat, That's exactly what happened. Noo fire. I was a lucky dog. Walked to a farm house and called dad. He came with the pick up and a chain and a couple 5 gallon gas cans.

How much are those? I bet you could get a pair of air shocks for less. This whole "top shock mounts blowing out" is a non-starter with me. I've had air shocks on several vehicles since the 70's, and never blew out the top shock mounts. I don't put 150 psi into them either....maybe 30. If you only need an inch or 2 of lift, get a set of air shocks, then get good springs when you can afford them.

PS...check out my sig pic...air shocks with 30lbs in them.....just levels it up...rides fine!
