Ok what's the secret? The intake is too thick! What to do?

Intake manifolds were thicker than exhaust by design. Allows the exhaust to move when hot or cold since clamped by same fasteners. Don't know what thickness diff should be. That does look like a lot there.

Cut a washer of the correct thickness in half and tack weld it to the original to make up the height difference.

I figured a bit of difference was design but everything tight and the header is flopping around like a fish out of water.

exactly... the hookers come with half moon washers to level out the triangle washers

if it moves it leaks...

Take a sharpie and trace the triangle area on the intake.
Get out the die grinder, and slowly grind it to an acceptable level.

Johnny Dart, I was thinking the would be the easy way as long as I go lightly.

I would leave the intake alone. What if you change headers and the new ones are taller? Washers cut in half is easier and faster but most of all reversible.

The motor is a 77 225 the car is 69 notch fish.

You got these from me  and I think (if I remember right) you are putting them on a /6 early Barracuda, and yes they are Clifford's.
Remember these only get tightened up to 15 inch lbs...
I see a couple good ways that will bring these to an acceptable level.
what gasket are you going to use Madcoy440 ? I don't see one..

I am thinking a possible gasket issue too. Perhaps the gaskets on the intake will compress more when tightened. I would slip in leveling washers, torque the nuts and see where you are before deciding on a final solution. I wonder if manifold gaskets vary between manufacturers.

go with what Johnny fish said grind down the intake side of the washer until flush ,easy way out.

I went with this intake/exhaust gasket, much thicker and it has 15.000 miles on it with out any leaks

A Remflex gasket for the headers will solve that.

They are about 3/16 thick.

When I did the heads on my 360 dodge ram truck I damaged a fel-pro head gasket that I bought from NAPA. It was a Sunday so I went to Advanced Auto. I got the same head gasket and same number and there was a tremendous difference. Same number different companies. I swear! I took it back and showed them and finally waited until Monday to get the good one.

Now that I know what headers you have, I would sell that intake to the neighbor, and put a Clifford 4bbl on it.

Or an Offenhauser like this one buy it now $200.00

Or a Clifford Like Johnny Dart said, I have been running an Offenhouser on mine but I really
don't know witch is best [ame="http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mopar-Clifford-intake-6-8-225-slat-six-chrysler-Dodge-Ratrod-Hotrod-/221374458801?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item338af22bb1&vxp=mtr"]Vintage Mopar Clifford Intake 6 8 225 Slat Six Chrysler Dodge Ratrod Hotrod | eBay[/ame]

I used this info to install mine and glad I had it, read it well..tighten ALL by hand and when you have it set correctly start from the center and go to 10 inch lbs !!
